Overview

The Principal Scientist, Proteomics will play a key role in expanding and advancing our Proteomics laboratory in Nashville, TN. This individual will collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the broader Inotiv organization, driving innovation and excellence in proteomics research and applications.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities: Lead the development of MS proteomics analysis platforms for the Nashville site. Oversee mass spectrometry system performance and maintenance. Identify opportunities for applying MS proteomics to meet company and client needs. Drive continuous process improvements in proteomics, including instrumentation, chromatography, sample prep, automation, and data analysis. Independently design experiments for LC-MS/MS sample analysis. Lead the development and deployment of new methods and instrumentation with the lab team. Contribute to scientific content delivery to clients, both in-person and electronically. Demonstrate expertise in Nashville's capabilities and Inotiv's broader offerings. Collaborate with SMEs and operational staff to provide timely answers to client inquiries. Perform quality control review of results and reports. Develop new lab procedures and processes as needed. Ensure compliance with Best Practices, SOPs, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Share project information and updates with management and operations teams. Maintain visibility on ongoing projects and contribute to customer satisfaction post-initiation. Identify and apply MS proteomics platforms to meet company and client needs. Perform additional duties as outlined in applicable SOPS.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field Postdoctoral training 5-10 years of relevant experience in mass spectrometry Skills and Abilities: Strong hands-on experience with the operation and maintenance of modern mass spectrometry (MS) instruments, especially high-resolution MS instruments, and their applications in peptide and protein analysis. Comprehensive understanding of protein and peptide separation, digestion, enrichment techniques, and chromatographic systems used in proteomic analysis. Proficiency in using software tools for protein and peptide identification and quantitation from mass spectrometry data. Experience with bioinformatics tools for analyzing proteomic and genomic data in biological systems. In-depth knowledge of bioanalysis processes, including sample preparation, standard calibration, quality control, instrument operation and troubleshooting, advanced method development, data processing, and reporting. Proven ability to develop innovative approaches to apply proteomics techniques to solve client problems in various contexts. Exceptional attention to detail, commitment to quality, and the ability to follow written instructions with minimal supervision. Strong understanding of GMP/GLP/GCP regulations and consistent application in daily work. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Adherence to all safety regulations and procedures. Ability to engage with customers to develop and implement new analyses and project designs, as well as to communicate project outcomes and interpret data. Experience in scientific writing for preparing project reports and scientific manuscripts. General Requirements: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English Physical Activity: Ability to wear latex or nitrile gloves, dust masks or respirators, and safety glasses as required Manual dexterity to operate laboratory equipment and computer/calculator Ability to read and interpret test results and instrument specifications Working Conditions: Work typically performed in office and laboratory settings Exposure to potentially hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of protective equipment Moderate noise level Occasional exposure to radiant/electrical energy, solvents, grease, oil, irritants, acids, bases, hazardous chemicals, electro-mechanical hazards, flammable materials, and biohazards Potential requirement for immunization (e.g., Hepatitis B) due to exposure to hazardous biological materials (including HIV-positive specimens) *This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
