Job Summary: This is a unique opportunity to work in an academic and clinically busy orthopedic department as Director of the Neuromuscular Research Program and Center for Gait and Movement Analysis, and the holder of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals/Helppie Family Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Movement Analysis. The position will be a full-time faculty Associate Professor or higher position in the Department of Orthopedics with a focus on clinical care and research for neuromuscular disorders. This position will report to the Chair of Pediatric Orthopedics, and as needed the Director for the Center for Children’s Surgery and to the Chair of the University of Colorado Department of Orthopedics. Additionally, this position will partner with leaders in the Pediatric Rehabilitation department.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide orthopedic leadership and direction for the neuromuscular subspecialty and the Center for Gait and Movement Analysis.
Simple and complex orthopedic management of children and young adults with neuromuscular disorders.
Perform clinical research related to neuromuscular disorders within and outside the Gait Laboratory.
Participate in and attend Gait Laboratory review sessions and necessary Gait Laboratory functions.
Lead preparation of manuscripts for publication. Assist with research training and supervision of graduate and medical students and residents. Assist with preparation of grants and project reports.
Participate (attend, give talks, help organize) in educational programs including weekly academic conference, journal club, symposia.
Prepare and give podium and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional, local and national meetings.
Participate in community outreach events including giving educational talks, organizing, planning, and attending.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Provide attending call coverage and urgent surgical coverage as needed by the department of pediatric orthopedics.
Manage simple and complex orthopedic trauma as well as provide fracture care in the ER or office as needed.
Assess and treat acute/chronic medical problems with a focus on patients with neuromuscular disorders.
