About the Chief Financial Officer:
Gateway Church’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a pivotal role, providing oversight, supervision, and administration of all financial matters. The CFO integrates Christian ethics and beliefs into financial planning and decision-making.
A highly collaborative leader, the CFO serves as an ad-hoc member of the Lead Team, leveraging expertise to craft financial strategies, develop short and long-term forecasts, and supervise all fiscal activities. Their duties encompass crafting and executing financial strategies aligned with Gateway’s vision and mission across all campuses.
Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer Responsibilities Include: Collaborate with the Lead Team and Elders to ensure alignment of financial goals with Gateway’s vision and mission. Craft and implement financial strategies aligned with Gateway’s leadership and oversee the budgeting process, financial planning, and financial reporting processes. Ensure responsible allocation of resources across ministries, departments, and campuses. Develop financial forecasts to predict future income, expenses, and cash flow needs. Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks, safeguarding the church’s financial health and long-term sustainability. Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Provide clear and concise financial reports to church leadership, including the Lead Team and Elders. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, adhering to ethical standards and principles. Manage cash flow, investments, and financial risk effectively. Lead financial audits and maintain relationships with auditors. What You Bring: The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Chief Financial Officer: Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree and significant/relevant experience working in finance, with a preference for church or non-profit experience. Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance, and CPA certification highly desirable. MBA would be strongly preferred. 10+ years of professional experience ideally in the church/non-profit world. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated experience at an executive level in financial management, accounting, and operations development. Demonstrated executive leadership and communication skills. Proven experience as a CFO or in a senior financial management role. Possess knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and nonprofit financial management. Excellent skills in FP&A, combining financial planning, financial forecasting, budgeting, and analysis to support financial decisions and ensure the overall financial health and future of Gateway Church. Stays current in accounting rules/regulations, financial trends, systems, and processes, including financial accounting software & church-related software. Personal Characteristics & Qualifications Has a strong relationship with Jesus Christ and is committed to Christian values. Exemplifies Christlikeness, integrity, and strong Christian character.
