Planned Parenthood Association of Utah is seeking a dynamic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead its finance department. This critical leadership position will blend strategic oversight with active participation in the organization’s financial operations, ensuring PPAU remains a pillar of strength in delivering high-quality healthcare and education across the state. As CFO, you will be directly engaging with the daily financial activities of the organization. From reviewing budgets and managing cash flow to troubleshooting operational challenges, you’ll immerse yourself in the details to ensure precision and efficiency. At the same time, you will provide forward-looking financial strategy, oversee budgeting processes, and guide PPAU’s long-term financial health. Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You will work closely with all departments to align financial planning with organizational priorities, while partnering with the development team to ensure seamless integration of fundraising goals and financial strategies. This position will require a keen ability to bridge financial expertise with cross-departmental collaboration to drive mission-critical initiatives. The CFO will oversee a talented team of six finance professionals, including two direct reports—the Controller and the Director of Revenue Cycle Management. Strategic Financial Leadership

Develops and implements financial strategies and policies to achieve organizational goals. Leads long-term financial planning, forecasting, and sustainability initiatives. Oversees risk management strategies, including insurance, investments, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Manages cash flow and liquidity, optimizing investment opportunities for excess cash reserves. Serves as a key advisor to the senior leadership team on financial matters. Participates in Executive Leadership team. Works with leadership team to create, monitor, and modify agency KPIs. Ensures financial policies and internal control procedures are consistently applied and effective. Core Financial Operations

Directs all accounting activities, including payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, and financial reporting. Oversees monthly financial close processes, including the preparation of trial balances, reconciliations, and financial statements. Leads the preparation and presentation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and its committees. Manages the annual audit process, including the A133 Single Audit and non-profit tax returns. Identifies and implements cost reduction strategies and new revenue opportunities. Negotiates third-party contracts, including billing and vendor agreements. Collaborative & Transactional Responsibilities

Partners with the Controller to perform transactional duties, such as overseeing daily accounting operations and financial data reconciliation. Monitors and reviews monthly: trial balance, general ledger, bank reconciliations, restricted and unrestricted assets and investments, department KPIs. Oversees and contributes to the preparation of financial dashboards for leadership review. Grants & Compliance

Prepares government funding applications and ensures compliance with grant requirements. Monitors and reports on grant expenditure and funding alignment to meet deadlines and regulations. Ensures compliance with PPFA, federal/state funding, and grant guidelines. Organizational Leadership

Supervises and mentors the finance team, including the Controller, Accountant, and Medical Billing Team. Provides cross-training opportunities and supports staff development within the finance department. Acts as a liaison to the Budget & Finance Committee, providing detailed financial analysis and insights. Collaborates with department leadership to develop and monitor annual budgets. What We're Looking For:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. CPA or advanced degree preferred but not required. Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles, including experience managing both transactional and strategic financial responsibilities. Experience leading and mentoring teams, with a track record of fostering collaboration and professional growth. Hands-on expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, nonprofit financial management, and compliance with federal and state regulations. Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, with a collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills. Proven experience partnering with development teams to align fundraising strategies with financial goals. Ability to thrive in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment. Bonus Qualifications (not required):

Expertise in non-profit accounting, compliance, and grants management (e.g., A133 Uniform Guidance reporting). Experience with both transactional and strategic financial management. Experience in nonprofit organizations and/or healthcare or human services sectors preferred. Familiarity with revenue cycle management and healthcare reimbursement models.
