Family and Youth Sports Program Director

Position Summary:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Family and Sports Program Director at Parkway Community YMCA will lead, develop, and launch activities that bring youth, caregivers, and families closer together, encourage good health, and foster connections through various activities and shared interests. Under the supervision of the Associate Branch Executive, the Youth and Family Director oversees the administration and operations of the following program areas: youth sports, adult sports, Child Watch, Parents Night Out, teen activities, annual campaign, and special events, all while ensuring a positive, safe, enriching environment, and others as developed based on community needs in accordance with the YMCA core values and mission. Key Responsibilities
Ensures programs and services meet community needs, including supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed, in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Manages program rosters, enrollment, and reporting. Evaluates program effectiveness. Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams. Trains and develops staff and volunteers to meet program goals and quality measures. Utilizes strategies to motivate and empower staff to achieve key objectives. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships internally and externally, including community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within the area of responsibility. Develops and monitors program budgets to meet fiscal objectives. Secures and schedules the needed facilities; creates and schedules classes, activities, or events. Provides direct service instruction/facilitation of 10-15 hours per week in programs. Secures appropriate staffing for programs and provides coverage when needed. Collaborates with other branch departments on programs and services as well as communication on upcoming activities. Develops new programs, events, or services that meet the needs of the community and align with strategic goals of fostering core relationships between participants. Ensures a variety of program offerings, including but not limited to physical activity, arts, dance, sports, and games for a wide range of groups from birth to 13 years old. Welcomes current and new family members and provides support in aligning their needs with programs and services. Leadership of leagues, serving up to 600 participants. Participates in the Annual Campaign as a staff worker and sustaining member. Provides direct service instruction/facilitation of 20 hours per week in programs with an emphasis on skill development and character. Oversees the administration and operation of programs serving children of all ages, youth, teens, and families at branch and off-site, including developing and implementing policy and procedures, planning, promoting, implementing, hiring and training staff, risk management, evaluation, and budgeting. Oversees administration and operations of Stay & Play program serving members 6 weeks to 12 years, ensuring a nurturing, safe, fun, interactive environment for children. Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of all Youth/Teen facilities to safety and cleanliness standards. Develops and executes meaningful and impactful teen programming in and outside of the YMCA. Develops and manages the Youth and Family Department budget ensuring that the department operates in a fiscally sound manner and achieves financial goals. Teaches/coaches youth and family programs as needed or directed. Supports branch/department initiatives to membership retention and Annual Giving goals. Builds and maintains positive relationships with members, staff, and community. Interprets, communicates, and promotes Y mission, goals, and objectives to employees, volunteers, leaders, members, and community. Partners/collaborates with organizations whose mission aligns with the Y to meet the needs of community children, youth, and families. Develops and enhances off-site Y youth programming to improve access to Y programs and reach underserved populations. Other duties as assigned. Evening, holiday, and weekend shifts are an expectation. Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health Sciences, or related field. YMCA Team Leader certification. Minimum 3 years’ experience working with youth and families. Two years of experience supervising and developing staff and volunteer teams. Demonstrated understanding of the developmental progression of skills of children and program development. Four years of sports coaching experience. Previous experience operating sports leagues in a leadership role. Experienced in and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs. Experience with creating, implementing, and evaluating Youth and Family Programming and events. Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook. Demonstrates initiative, effectively prioritizes, and possesses strong organizational skills. Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Physical Demands

Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff. At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs. Required Training/Certifications

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position requires a flexible schedule including daytime, evening, and weekend availability depending on the needs of the position.
