As part of the leadership team of Twilio.org, the social impact arm of the company, you will oversee existing teams and programs, as well as develop new programs. You will lead teams in crisis response, environmental sustainability and ESG, employee impact, grants and impact investing, as well as partner with Legal on ethical product use. This role will report to the Chief Social Impact Officer, who is also the GM of the social impact business unit and reports to the CEO. The Who, What, Where and Why Who? As the Vice President of Social and Environmental Impact, you have experience in: Strategy : Development, gain alignment on, and execution of bold strategies that involve and impact more than one company. Experience narrowing a greenfield of opportunities into a clear vision, simple strategy, and focused priorities. Secures resources to deliver on the strategy. Works closely with product, marketing, and business teams to understand new markets, define product needs and opportunities, and bring new social impact opportunities to market. Measures and adapts execution based on performance and insights. Team Leadership : Builds and leads strong teams. Ability to evaluate teams, develop, and reshape them as necessary while mentoring and inspiring them to drive continually improving results through strong leadership. Cross functional and executive influence : Executive engagement and cross-functional collaboration, including with Product and Engineering leaders. Demonstrated ability to develop strong consultative relationships with external partners and internal cross-functional teams at all levels. Experience with creating, developing, and communicating executive level materials. Tech savvy : Can speak with tech product leaders about roadmaps, and effectively understand how to make tradeoffs with them. Global scale : Experience leading programs with impact outside North America. Integrating social and environmental impact with business : Understands the value of generating revenue through social impact. Listens to and understands those we serve rather than thinking we have all the answers. Experience with grant making, impact investing, and engaging employees in social impact is a plus. Accountability : Quantifying business needs and developing metrics. Proven track record of meeting business targets. Ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and concrete action plans. Social impact measurement and evaluation : Experience applying models (e.g., Theory of Change) to define, measure, and evaluate social impact is a plus. 15 years of experience, including 10 years in the social impact sector (CSR, public sector, nonprofit), and 5 years in a leadership capacity where you have built and/or scaled a team of 10 and changed the lives of millions of people. What? You’ll own the company’s strategy and programs in crisis response, environmental sustainability, philanthropy, employee impact, and more. Specifically tied to the Twilio Magic, this will include: Lead global strategic program development for social and environmental impact. Narrow the wide landscape of opportunity into a clear vision, focused strategy, and priorities. Build repeatable, scalable programs that use our products, people, and funding to help solve major social and environmental problems. Build and manage inclusive teams to unlock their potential, achieve our ambitions, and consistently deliver strong, measurable results. Build and lead our crisis response strategy and team so that Twilio can help solve global crises. This includes disaster response, personal crisis intervention (e.g., hotlines), and emergency services. Supervise our climate change and ESG program. Collaborate with leaders across the company (including in Product) to identify and roll out how Twilio’s products and developer community can help reduce climate impacts by companies and organizations globally. This includes helping to build and lead the team, as well as engage the Board and investors. Partnering with Legal’s VP of Ethical Product Use, lead Twilio.org’s efforts in ethical product use so we reduce the unintended negative societal and environmental consequences of using our products. Supervise the philanthropy team that engages employees in social and environmental impact, scales the WePledge 1% movement, as well as provides grants and impact investments to organizations. Lead our role in launching and participating in cross-company, cross-industry efforts related to social and environmental impact. Be a spokesperson and ensure we have a meaningful seat at the table with key influencers such as the World Economic Forum, top international NGOs, industry coalitions, and major foundations. Partner with our Operations and Analytics team to refine our Theory of Change, impact measurement and evaluation. Guide program development based on that feedback. Why?
