The JP Amazon Cross-Channel, Cross-Category (XCM) team is seeking a passionate Executive Creative Director (ECD) to lead how we attract new customers and build Amazon and Prime’s brand for all audiences in Japan.
This leader must balance right/left brain acumen, delivering sustainable, big ideas rooted in customer insights. With proven cross-channel experience driving results for global brands across categories and segments, the ECD will elevate our creative strategy and execution.
The ideal candidate will excel in leading creative teams and agencies, fostering deep partnerships with business stakeholders, and seamlessly shifting between analytical and non-linear creative discussions. As the creative visionary, their aesthetic judgment, awareness of industry trends, and ability to innovate will set the standard for Amazon JP.
This role demands a startup mindset - leaders who take ownership, wear multiple hats, and operate strategically and tactically. From crafting broad, transformative ideas to executing flawlessly, the ECD must thrive in an environment of constant innovation, striving for the highest standards while staying agile as we adapt to customer needs.
Key job responsibilities
Build Creative Strategy - Define Amazon JP’s customer-facing positioning by translating insights, competitive analysis, and brand strengths into a clear, scalable creative framework. - Develop creative campaigns across channels that resonate with customers and amplify brand value. Creative Leadership - Lead Amazon and Prime’s creative vision, delivering world-class campaigns aligned with business and brand strategies. - Set the creative bar for storytelling and product presentation, inspiring internal and central teams to create aspirational, customer-focused work. - Collaborate with marketing leaders to develop clear creative briefs and ensure seamless execution. - Drive creative reviews and present compelling narratives to senior management, influencing key decisions. - Partner with top-tier freelancers and vendors to ensure exceptional creative outputs. Marketing Innovation - Pioneer innovative marketing ideas and programs to support product launches and campaigns. - Collaborate with marketing and agency partners to drive impactful execution and measure success for continuous improvement.
A day in the life As Executive Creative Director, your day starts by reviewing creative briefs with marketing leaders, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. You’ll lead brainstorming sessions with your team, generating breakthrough ideas for campaigns that resonate with Japanese customers while reflecting Amazon’s global brand. Midday, you might present concepts to senior management, weaving compelling narratives that influence decisions. Afternoons could include collaborating with agencies or mentoring team members to elevate their craft. You'll analyze performance data to refine future strategies and inspire innovative solutions. Every day is dynamic - balancing creative vision, strategic thinking, and hands-on execution to continually raise the creative bar.
About the team The XCM team is a multidisciplinary group driving Amazon JP’s mass communication and creative excellence. With expertise in media strategy, communication strategy, portfolio management, creative production, and project management, XCM ensures seamless execution of cross-channel campaigns.
As Executive Creative Director, you will lead the Creative Strategy department within XCM, managing a talented team of two Group Creative Directors, two Art Directors, and one Creative Strategist. You’ll also collaborate with freelancers and contractors specializing in design and copywriting. Together, this team delivers innovative, customer-centric campaigns that elevate Amazon JP’s brand and resonate deeply with diverse audiences in Japan.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 10+ years of professional creative or marketing experience - Experience managing teams - Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements - Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams - Experience guiding creative input, development and execution from concept to completion - Experience communicating results to senior leadership - Fluency in English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Fluency in Japanese - Experience overseeing freelance creatives
