Schneider Electric North America Operations Power Systems Division has an outstanding opportunity for a passionate and motivated individual to assume the role of Principal Electrical Engineer at our Smyrna & Mt. Juliet TN facilities. For those with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and industry experience with medium voltage electrical products and equipment (2.4-38kV), Schneider Electric is hiring!
Our team works with the design of electrical power distribution systems involving protective relays, PLC controls, and power monitoring using computer aided design tools to design one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and physical layouts of the medium voltage electrical products and equipment (2.4-38kV) serving the ANSI/IEEE, UL, North American Market.
Overview:
This role is responsible for providing all aspects of customer support. Consults on application of products and solutions with utilities, end users, consultants, and contractors as well as Schneider Electric sales, quotation, and project execution teams. Works closely with factory support functions (production, supply chain, purchasing, and customer service) to provide the best experience to our customers.
This role is specialized, the successful candidate will act as the medium voltage utility requirements expert.
Main activities:
- Act as the lead utility engineer which will encompass:
- becoming the expert on utility medium voltage service entrance requirements
- establishing contacts and relationships and with various North American utilities
- obtaining latest utility service entrance standards/requirements
- translating latest utility service entrance standards/requirements into procedures, documents, drawings, etc. so the information can be effectively conveyed to broad team and integrated into specific solutions
- peer reviewing utility orders to ensure compliance with all requirements
- supporting manufacturing during production on orders which have utilities requirements
- audit/inspect utility orders prior to shipment to ensure compliance with all requirements
- drive for continuous improvement related to medium voltage utilities
- drive for standardization of parts, assemblies, and engineering records
- develop reference orders (prior valid basis of design) to reuse prior engineering work where possible
- develop and leverage expertise of industry applicable codes & standards
- mentor other engineers
- Generate and ensure technical quality of deliverables (drawings, bills of material, services)
- Ensure compliance with each project's objectives
- Continuous improvement of the design activity in terms of technical knowledge, efficiency, processes, quality, and service level
- Collaborates with other engineering and quality teams to ensure compliance with design intent and safety considerations are maintained
Who will you report to?
- This position reports to the Engineering Superisor in Smyrna, TN.
What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
- 4-year electrical engineering degree
- 6 years’ experience in the design and engineering of medium voltage electrical distribution equipment inclusive of electrical power distribution system protection & control
- Ability to translate customer requirements into designs; creating deliverables including one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, sectional/layout views, and bills of material.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications for medium voltage equipment.
- Ability to work in mix between office and manufacturing environments
- Ability to gain full proficiency in Engineering and other job-related tools: SEE XP, AutoCAD, Symmetry, LDS, ODM+, etc.
- Effective time management to acknowledge and normalize raised eAndons from manufacturing
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of both internal and external customers
- Knowledge and demonstrated application of applicable codes and standards
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Strong initiative to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment with a specific aptitude and ability to learn electrical engineering of electrical power distribution equipment
- US citizen or those who have the legal right to work in the US with no sponsorship
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred, but not required
