Purpose of Position:

Senior Director of Marketing oversees the development and execution of Marketing and Innovation strategy and annual plans for both Del Monte and Mann packing brands ensuring optimal utilization of budget, and leading product Innovation from conception and validation to in market execution.

Accountabilities:
  • Consumer Understanding, Concept Development and Targeting - This individual will be responsible for overseeing Research and Insights' efforts in collaboration with the Director of Insights & Analytics and aim to uncover actionable and important consumer and customer insights that can be leveraged and translated for ideation and for story-telling to the consumers and customers.
  • Marketing Strategy- This individual will need to define "branding" within the product category, determine where to play, who to serve and how to win
  • Brand Management / Activations - This individual brings marketing strategies to life via the implementation of integrated marketing communications and activations to generate awareness, trial and adoption. So, branding in this case needs to be reflected via packaging; labels; story telling; merchandising. For the "big ideas", we need to take into account lifecycle management behind the bigger ideas and develop a plan for how to support these ideas to make them bigger
  • Innovation & NPD - This individual will determine the innovation strategy and pipeline anchored in consumer insights, will ensure the implementation of the innovation process from conceptualization to launch, and will develop consumer communication / activation strategies taking into account they key channels that they might consume.
  • Customer Marketing - This individual must know how to develop not only an exciting consumer proposition, but also take into account how to help our sales leaders to position each opportunity to their customers. The overall opportunity with the innovations is to de-commoditize the produce category, so, the leader will need very compelling insights and selling points to win over customers in order to command much higher margins.
  • Financial Delivery - This individual will need to monitor closely the overall contribution of each marketing & innovation initiative to the overall category. The goal behind all of these programs is to ensure that we generate brand affinity and drive much higher profitability versus existing categories (bananas and pineapples) via innovation. In addition, this individual will work very closely with finance, operations and sales to help and set strategic plans for long-term and annual goals.
  • Functional Leadership & Development - Build and shape a highly-effective, world- class Marketing and Innovation Organization by hiring, training, motivating and setting leadership direction for all direct reports and peers around the world. Review and enhance, where necessary, all marketing processes, measurements, information systems, etc., that enables the overall Marketing function to operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Design and review the Marketing department's budget
  • Build relationships with media and stakeholders through creative PR strategies
  • Monitor all marketing campaigns and improve them when necessary
  • Prioritize marketing projects and allocate resources accordingly
Minimum Skills Required:
  • Minimum 10- 15 years' experience in Marketing with at least 3 years at a senior level, preferably in CPG or Produce companies
  • Preferred: Bi-lingual: Spanish and English.
  • Bachelor's Degree (Marketing, Business, Communications, Engineering or any other related field). Prefrered MBA
  • Brand Management: Will consider individuals with CPG Foods (e.g. baby food, healthy product portolio); Produce; Fresh Products (e.g. dairy, poultry); and or nutrition; QSR / Foodservice experience could also be very valuable. Initially having started a career with Brand Marketing and Innovation with blue-chip companies. Following, start-up experience would be valuable to demonstrate faster-moving, entrepreneurial mindset. Experience in developing a significant innovation / brand with measurable results would be valuable.
  • Innovation/NPD - Proven experience developing new brands/products from an "end to end" perspective (e.g., concept to market launch and activation). Understands the importance of using a robust innovation development process (i.e. Stage Gate), using consumer research, insights, and financial markers to make critical "go/no-go" decisions along the development path.
  • Complete Marketing Toolkit - Experience across the traditional marketing mix, with demonstrated results in Positioning, Brand Management, New Products/Innovation, PR, Advertising and Media, Trade/Customer Marketing, Local Promotion and Events, etc. Ideally, Digital Marketing experience would be valuable (e.g., Display, Retargeting, SEO/SEM, EMM, Affiliate, Social, Mobile).
  • Sales Capabilities / Customer Marketing - Experience collaborating closely with Sales to support new item introductions and contribute to business meetings with retail customers. This includes experience calling-on major accounts (national account level; F/D/MM/Club.) (Experience in c-stores, foodservice and QSR's could also be valuable).
  • Functional Development - Experience hiring, training and developing a high-performing team of Marketing and Brand talent (and building a robust bench of agency and supplier partners). Additionally, experience motivating and inspiring other functions, with the "voice of the consumer," creating a culture of commitment to delivering what the market wants and needs, in a compelling way.
