Management Controls Inc. (MCi) is excited to welcome a highly skilled DevOps Engineer with deep Azure Cloud and Azure DevOps expertise to join our dynamic team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have a unique combination of skills that include DevOps practices and prior experience as a Database Administrator (DBA). This role will focus on automating and optimizing our infrastructure using modern DevOps tools while leveraging database management expertise to ensure our data systems' reliability, security, and performance. The DevOps Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams (Developers, QA, DBAs, Networking, Security, and Cloud Administrator) to support and improve cloud-based infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring solutions, and database systems in an Azure environment. The candidate's time will be allocated to 75% DevOps and 25% DBA responsibilities. The business is privately held, has been around for 30 years, services most of the Fortune 100, and is experiencing exponential growth, which will last into the next decade. As we expand our operations, we seek a skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer to join our talented team. Management Controls is headquartered in Houston, TX with a hybrid schedule 3 days in-office and 2 days working from home / week. Duties and responsibilities: Azure Infrastructure Management: Design, implement, and manage cloud infrastructure using Azure services (VMs, Azure App Services, AKS, Azure SQL, VNET, etc.) Optimize resources and ensure cloud environments' scalability, reliability, and security Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, or Bicep (CI/CD) Pipeline Automation: Build, maintain, and optimize Azure DevOps pipelines for continuous integration, delivery, and deployment of applications using Azure DevOps YAML template deployment strategy Automate testing, code quality checks, and deployment workflows across production and lower environments Manage version control using Git and enforce Azure DevOps branch policies to ensure code quality through peer review Monitoring and Logging: Implement monitoring solutions using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and DynaTrace for full visibility into applications and infrastructure Set up alerts, dashboards, and metrics for proactive system health monitoring Database Administration (DBA) Responsibilities: Oversee and maintain database systems (e.g., Azure SQL, SQL Server), ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability Handle database backups, restores, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning using tools such as DynaTrace and DPA Collaborate with teams to design and manage highly available and disaster recovery solutions for database systems Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with development, QA, and operations teams to streamline development and release processes Provide guidance and technical support in troubleshooting system issues, outages, and performance bottlenecks Assist DBAs with database migration projects, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal downtime Security and Compliance: Implement best practices for security, compliance, and governance across the cloud and database environments Ensure proper access control, data encryption, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) Requirements Required Qualifications The following skills represent the minimum requirements to be considered for this position: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science degree and/or equivalent education and experience 3 years of experience in DevOps, including Azure cloud services and Azure DevOps tools 1 years of experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in SQL Server or Azure SQL Proficiency in Azure DevOps for CI/CD, release pipelines, and managing work items Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as ARM templates, Terraform, or Bicep Experience with monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, DynaTrace, Log Analytics, or similar Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and backups Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and backups Preferred Skills The following skills represent additional proficiencies preferred to be successful in this position: Application Performance Monitoring experience Commercial SaaS application delivery experience SonarQube implementation and administration experience Working knowledge with Log Analytics/Application Insights Network methodology, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills ITIL experience and Microsoft certifications Soft Skills Self-motivated and able to thrive in a results-driven environment Natural relationship builder with integrity, reliability, and maturity Ability to prioritize among competing tasks and requests Critical thinking and problem-solving skills Keen attention to detail and adherence to deadlines Teamwork and team player Strong interpersonal skills
