Job Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Transportation, serve as a School Bus Driver / Delegated Behind-the-Wheel Trainer. The main portion of this position is to perform the assigned duties of a school bus driver, and transport students over scheduled routes; ensure the safety of students while being transported to an assigned location on a designated route; maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus; perform regular safety inspections of the buses; operate the school bus in a safe manner at all times; provide behind-the-wheel training to School Bus Drivers.

Requirements / Qualifications

* Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or G.E.D. and eight (8) months of experience driving a Type 1 Bus. * Valid California Commercial License Class A or B with appropriate passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements. * Delegated Behind the Wheel Certification which in 12 months of employment with Santa Cruz City Schools. * Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency. * Valid California Special Driver's certificate (DL45), unrestricted except for #1-Automatic Transmission only. * Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate. * Comply with District policy and the US Department of Transportation's drug and alcohol testing regulations including random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident testing. * Incumbents must be a minimum of 24 years of age. * A driving record without a chargeable accident in any vehicle within the three years immediately preceding the date of selection as a delegated behind-the-wheel trainer.

* Schedule: Monday-Friday * Must be 24 years of age or older * Be able to work 180 days per year * Subject to physical and drug test * Must be able to read, write and speak English * A safe driving record in accordance with the requirements of the California Vehicle Code is required.
