Position Overview
As the Senior Accounting Manager at Sharks Sports and Entertainment you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. You will lead a team of skilled professionals and oversee many aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and compliance to support the organization’s strategic objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recognize revenue for live events, including NHL hockey games, AHL hockey games, concerts, and other live entertainment.
Continuously enhance the monthly close process timeline.
Supervise Accounting group members, manage their capacity and workload allocation, and provide training and development.
Review and interpret facility leases and management agreements to ensure proper accounting and tracking of high-profile capital expenditures.
Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulations.
Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Work closely with external tax advisors to minimize tax liabilities, perform tax planning, and ensure compliance.
Oversee and participate in the decision-making process for insurance policies covering organizational assets.
Participate in the ongoing development of accounting policies and procedures, including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
Interact at all levels with budget-to-actual variance analysis.
Review the SAP S/4 HANA system environment, identify automation opportunities, and implement system automation.
Monitor and manage cash flows to ensure liquidity and support the company's initiatives.
Evaluate and implement financial systems and tools to streamline operations and enhance reporting capabilities.
Oversee cash controls, processes, and procedures for various venues, including SAP Center, Tech CU Arena, and Sharks Ice (Fremont, San Jose, and Oakland locations).
Minimum Qualifications
Either a master’s degree in accounting, or CPA license is required
Minimum 8 years in financial and operating accounting with a mix of public accounting experience required
Proficiency in SAP accounting products required
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
Excellent leadership and supervision experience required
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced excel skills
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
Experience within the sports & entertainment industry is a plus.
