The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Pay Range: $116,000.00 - $174,100.00

Job Description About the Role Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking a full-time

Senior Cloud Engineer

to join our newly established Disaster Recovery Team onsite in Salt Lake City, Utah. This critical role will drive the design, implementation, and management of enterprise-level disaster recovery strategies, ensuring the resilience and availability of WGU's systems across multi-region deployments. As a senior member of the team, you will take ownership of initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and lead efforts to establish best practices for disaster recovery and CI/CD processes. This position is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives on collaboration, leadership, and innovation in cloud-based infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Spearhead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide disaster recovery initiatives.

Lead multi-region deployments, leveraging current CI/CD processes to ensure scalability and reliability.

Mentor, train, and delegate tasks to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.

Design and implement roadmaps for robust cloud-based data infrastructures.

Develop tools and strategies to facilitate efficient multi-region operations.

Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience in software development, focusing on backend development.

3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.

Demonstrated experience in implementing disaster recovery strategies at an enterprise level.

Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to inspire and guide junior team members.

Proficiency in designing cloud infrastructures and utilizing CI/CD processes.

Preferred Qualifications At least 2 Associate-level AWS certifications (Solutions Architect and SysOps Administrator) or 1 Professional-level AWS certification (Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer).

Experience with Kubernetes.

Experience with Azure cloud services.

Bonus: Disaster Recovery Engineer Certification (CDRE).
