Job Description

The Accounting Manager at the Gaithersburg Branch is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Accounting department by participating in the monthly closings, assisting with and completing the preparation of the monthly profit and loss statements, and maintaining Balance Sheet schedules and subsidiary ledgers. This is a high-volume position having full responsibility for a portfolio of Financial Statements. This position is also responsible for the supervision of 3 staff accountants, AR and AP invoice processing and operating and investment account banking for our clients.

This is a Full-time position based in Gaithersburg, MD and one workday remote per week is considered with approval but working in-office is expected the majority of the time.

Daily tasks:

  • Applies principles of modified accrual accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts, posting adjusting entries when necessary.
  • Identity, research, resolve and communicate accounting, auditing, and operational issues.
  • Interacts with external auditors to complete audits of year-end financial statements.
  • Oversee the posting and maintenance of general ledger accounts, payroll transactions, accounts payable and general ledger adjustments.
  • Assist Director of Management Services with special projects to facilitate the effective functioning of the Accounting department.
  • Manage training of staff including preparation of reviews for staff accountants, bookkeepers and other supervisory actions needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • 5+ years of general ledger accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably in the property management industry.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Finance, Accounting, Budgeting, and Cost Control Principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience working with Auditors is critical.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) at a proficient level.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Self-motivated, detailed-oriented, takes initiative. Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently. Strong follow through skills.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Ateam player.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Strong listening skills with the ability to discern what a client is asking for versus what they need.
