Skylo is a global Non-Terrestrial Network service provider based in Mountain View, CA, offering a service that allows smartphone and IoT cellular devices to connect directly over existing satellites.

Skylo’s direct-to-device service is now live across four continents, with more than 50 million square kilometers of coverage, in partnership with multiple satellite operators, mobile network operators (MNOs), Tier-1 chipset makers, and OEMs. Devices connected over satellite are managed and served by Skylo's commercial NTN vRAN, featuring a 3GPP standards-based cloud-native base station and core. Skylo provides anywhere, anytime connectivity solution that seamlessly roams between terrestrial and satellite networks. Our focus is on enabling connected services for people outdoors and connected workflows across three main verticals: mass-market consumer devices, automotive, and industrial IoT.

This role is located in Mountain View, CA where we are onsite 3 days a week in the office.

Summary Of How You Will Impact Skylo

Skylo is hiring a Director of Network Deployment, reporting to the vice president of network engineering and operations. The selected candidate will be responsible for deploying the Skylo worldwide network according to Skylo’s roadmap and customers' needs. This is a terrific opportunity for an engineering leader who wants to make a highly visible impact in the dynamic environment of an early-stage startup focused on an exploding market segment.

How You Will Contribute

  • Manage the deployment and implementation of Skylo’s Cellular Non-Terrestrial Satellite Network across Skylo’s Radio Access Network, Core Network, and Cloud Services.
  • Collaborate closely with Skylo’s Network Operations and Network Planning and Design teams.
  • Create and run a strong change management program through technology, process, and culture.
  • Ensure there is observability in the network for KPI monitoring, alerting, and SLA adherence.
  • Integrate the Skylo network with worldwide mobile network operators for data, SMS, voice services enablement through roaming agreements and IPX interconnectivity.
  • Perform vendor management from a technical standpoint and participate in RFI/RFPs for network vendors.
  • Manage Skylo’s RAN installations including site surveying, equipment ordering, physical layouts, and site installation and provisioning.
  • Coordinate with the product team, the network design team, the network operations team, the test team, as well as internal and external providers of hardware and software solutions to ensure a timely, flawless network deployment.
  • Lead the resolution of network issues escalated by network operations.
  • Organize, grow and lead the team for success; lead by example.

What We Look For

  • 10+ years of engineering management experience in the telecom or mobile network industry.
  • 5+ years of experience deploying regional or nationwide networks.
  • Proven ability to handle complex, cross-functional, multi-project execution while operating within budgets.
  • Strong leadership skills with a history of building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Experience in satellite industry or 4G/5G cellular network industry at a service provider or network vendor.
  • Knowledge of IPX, mobile network operator roaming integration, and GSMA best practices.
  • Expertise in release engineering, deployment management, change management, and method of procedure (MOP).
  • Experience deploying applications in a multi-region cloud environment.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware deployment, including wiring, rack layouts, Bill of Material, and site surveys.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed SLAs and timelines in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships at senior management/executive levels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with confidence in representing perspectives to senior leadership.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.

Additional Information

The compensation range for this position is: $180,000 - $230,000 plus equity. This range reflects the low and high end of the range Skylo reasonably and generally expects to pay the hired candidate in this role.
