General Summary
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer oversees SafeNest's finances, grants, and budget. The CFO is pivotal in managing day-to-day financial processes, annual budget development, and grant-related activities. The CFO is responsible for monthly budget and finance reporting to agency leadership and the board of directors. This strategic position involves conducting cost and operations analysis and researching, writing, and coordinating grant submissions. The CFO collaborates with stakeholders to create grant budgets, monitor financial management, ensure compliance with grant financial requirements, and oversee the invoicing, A/P, and A/R processes. Additionally, the CFO works closely with the CEO and Organizational Leadership on strategic planning, budgeting, reporting, and complex analysis of the overall budget and grant attainment process. Supervising assigned staff, managing the board audit and finance committee, and overseeing the annual agency audit are integral components of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Budget and Financial Management
Strong Fiscal experience in the Nonprofit industry Manage day-to-day financial processes and annual budget development. Provide monthly budget and finance reports to agency leadership and the board of directors. Process supplemental budgets and allotments as needed based on individual funding sources. Monitor fiscal status projections regularly. Conduct cost and operations analysis to support strategic decision-making. Run the annual agency audit, ensuring compliance and documentation accuracy. Ensure appropriate internal controls and fiscal policies are established, maintained, and updated regularly in line with actual agency practices.
Grants Management
Oversee grant manager to achieve all strategic goals and ensure a consistent grant pipeline. Experience managing a grant or government contract portfolio of at least 8 million annually. Develop, write, and coordinate grant submissions, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create grant budgets. Monitor the financial management of grants and oversee the grant billing processes. Ensure compliance with grant financial requirements and standards by knowing and implementing guidelines outlined in grant contracts.
Strategic Oversight
Collaborate with the CEO and Organizational Leadership on budgeting and related reporting. Conduct complex analysis of the overall budget, strategic outlook, and grant attainment process. Develop budget and grant recommendations/projects for review. Research and expand grant opportunities, increasing grant revenue.
Supervision and Committee Management
Supervise assigned bookkeeping, grant manager, and finance staff and contractors to provide leadership and support. Oversee Revenue Manager to achieve all revenue goals in Coffee and Donation Center departments. Manage the board audit and finance committee.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field is required. A graduate degree is highly desirable. A minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in financial management, budgeting, and grants management is required, 5 years preferably in a nonprofit organization. Proven experience in managing board finance committees. Experience managing an agency operating budget of at least 10 million annually. Experience writing and reviewing grants and working with government funding agencies. Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Excellent analytical, strategic, writing, and communication skills.
