North Coast Seafoods is a high-quality seafood production company committed to excellence, sustainability, and leadership in the industry. We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Production Manager to oversee our New Bedford production facility, focusing on the leadership and growth of both our Production and Shipping teams. This key role is responsible for ensuring efficient operations, maintaining safety and quality standards, and driving a positive workplace culture.
The Senior Production Manager oversees day-to-day production and shipping operations at North Coast’s New Bedford facility. They will be responsible for managing staff, ensuring safety protocols are met, and coordinating production schedules to maximize efficiency. This role is ideal for a proven leader who can effectively develop managers, implement systems, and ensure high standards in production planning and logistics.
Knowledge of seafood processing and quality standards is essential to ensure product integrity and meet North Coast’s commitment to delivering the highest quality seafood to our customers.
This position will work closely with our buyers in Boston and reports directly to our General Manager in New Bedford.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Team Development:
Mentor and develop department managers and supervisors, with a focus on honing leadership skills and fostering growth. Ensure the training and development of team members across departments.
Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance assessments, creating a culture of continuous improvement.
Operations and Production Management:
Oversee all production and shipping activities, including manufacturing, receiving, packing, and shipping.
Drive production output while minimizing unnecessary costs, ensuring that North Coast’s high-quality standards are consistently met.
Monitor daily operations, take corrective actions as needed, and ensure all production goals are achieved.
Systems and Efficiency:
Implement and maintain systems and processes to optimize productivity, track metrics, and achieve performance targets.
Develop and execute capital plans related to production improvements, repairs, and expansion as needed.
Work closely with Quality Control to ensure compliance with SQF, GMPs, HACCP, and other safety protocols.
Safety and Compliance:
Conduct regular safety meetings and audits to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Enforce safety systems and protocols, ensuring that all employees adhere to company and regulatory standards.
Employee Relations and Culture Building:
Foster a team-oriented environment and open communication, addressing any problems, complaints, or grievances professionally.
Collaborate with HR to uphold a respectful, productive workplace and support workforce development initiatives.
Requirements
10+ years, experience in a key leadership position in a manufacturing facility
10+ years, experience with safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies or quality control
7+ year, experience in food manufacturing; seafood or meat processing a plus
BA in Business/Engineering/Finance/Management/Food Science/Operations, preferred
HACCAP (Seafood) Certified
OSHA 10 or 30 Certified
Strong project management and organizational skills; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects on time
Exceptional interpersonal skills; able to navigate organizations to build relationships and garner support
Able to provide leadership and resolve employee problems, complaints, and grievances
Able to provide support and training to department managers to achieve goals
Manage an environment that drives performance while maintaining a safe workplace
Drive an environment of teamwork and open communication
Direct and coordinate quality, safety, manufacturing, maintenance and distribution activities to meet and exceed the internal and external customer/regulatory expectations
Strong background in seafood/meat/ready to eat production processes, quality standards, and safety protocols.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds
Work up to a 10-hour workday: standing/walking most of the day
Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit
Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
Ability to work Monday-Friday, weekends when needed
Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives
