Job Description:

The position is responsible for scoping, planning/designing, delivering and maintaining systems based on needs/requirements of the group The Systems Administrator will play an active role in the Groups IT infrastructure on the enterprise network within the organization. Attention to detail and completeness of work (e.g., documentation) will be expected. This person will also be called on for consultation and support of different group projects, often with interesting and challenging computing constraints. Responsibilities will include providing technical support to users, which covers general desktop support to advanced system configuration. Additional responsibilities include provisioning new research systems, updating system configurations, solving user problems with application compatibility, installation, operating system upgrades and in general maintain a very heterogeneous computing environment. The ideal candidate should be experienced in a variety of OS's, including a strong Linux background.

Required skills:

Experience in Linux system administration Experience in designing, building, and supporting virtualized environments, VMware preferred Comfortable troubleshooting servers and storage of various platforms Solid understanding of networking (e.g. switching, routing, and firewalls) and networking services/protocols (e.g. DNS, DHCP, HTTP etc.) Experience in VMware vSphere 5.0 - 6.5 Design software and hardware requirements that meet program specifications Plan expected computer upgrades and new infrastructure hardware procurement Troubleshoot software and hardware issues in dynamic environments Experience with server room equipment installation and cabling Understand and operate within established internal IT policies as appropriate Strong interpersonal skills are required Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required

Preferred skills:

Broad System Administrator experience in diverse OS/network environments (Windows, Linux, Macintosh) (5+ years) Experience with Linux system configuration and patch management tools Experience with integrating Linux within an enterprise environment Experience with enterprise storage systems (iSCSI/NFS, EqualLogic/NetApp, VSAN, etc) Experience with the procurement of hardware and software, including writing requirements, deriving specifications, purchasing, delivery, and installation Experience implementing security measures/best practices
