TITLE: CTE-Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (40% Part-Time)

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be certified by NC OEMS and possess an EMT Basic Instructor certification.

SALARY: NC Teacher Salary + 18% supplement

BENEFITS: No Benefits (teache two courses)

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or clerical assistants.

REPORTS TO: The school principal or his/her designee

JOB GOAL: To teach EMT I and II while preparing students to meet the NC OEMS requirement for eligibility to take the state EMT Basic certification exam.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develops lesson plans and instructional materials. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. * Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. * Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. * Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students. * Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media. * Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. * Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interprets the school program. * Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. * Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities. * Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. * Performs other duties as assigned. * Instructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities. * Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. * Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. * Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. * Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. * Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates these objectives to pupils. * Evaluates pupil performance and growth using a variety of formative and summative evaluation tools * Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interprets the school program. * Collaborates with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment for pupils.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
