The Wyomissing Fire Department is hiring for the following position:

The Civil Service Commission of the Borough of Wyomissing, Berks County, PA will conduct examinations for the position of Deputy Fire Chief for the Wyomissing Fire Department. Applications are available at the Borough Hall, 22 Reading Boulevard, Wyomissing, PA 19610, www.wyomissingboro.org, or you may apply online at Indeed.com. All applications shall be submitted to the Borough Secretary in proper form, no later than Friday, January 10, 2025 at 3:00 PM to be considered for further processing. Borough Hall hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, but will be closed December 24 and 25, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
Any applicant claiming Veteran’s Preference is responsible for providing a DD-214 with their application.
Applicants for Deputy Fire Chief must be a United States citizen, 18 years old before deadline for submitting a completed application, possess a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or a discipline related to the fire service, experience in all phases of fire protection work including fire prevention and administration, experience working with Career and Volunteer firefighters, have ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in a Career or Combination Fire Department, be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a Deputy Fire Chief, have a valid Driver’s License and be eligible to legally operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and shall obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 1 year of hire date, and possess and submit the following Certifications: • Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification • Emergency Medical Technician -Basic • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor II • NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector I • NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Operations • FEMA NIMS ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400, IS-700 and IS-800 • Additional certifications required after appointment are listed in the full job description.
Applicants must successfully complete a written examination, oral examination, and a thorough background investigation to be certified as eligible on the eligibility list. To be hired, the applicant will need to complete an NFPA 1582 Physical, psychological screening, fitness assessment, and drug and alcohol testing.
The starting salary range for the Deputy Fire Chief in 2025, is $90,000 to $100,000
The written examination is scheduled for Saturday January 25, 2025, at Wyomissing Area Jr. Sr. High School Cafeteria, 630 Evans Avenue, Wyomissing, PA 19610. The written exam will begin promptly at 0900 hours. Please bring your driver’s license to check in for the test. Doors will open at 8:30 AM, no one will be allowed to enter after 9:00 AM
Applicants achieving a written test score of 80% or greater, will be notified of the date, location and time of the oral interviews.
