MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.
JOB SUMMARY: Manages the operations of all production trades. Responsible for ensuring that all projects are manned with competent, properly trained and certified personnel, and the work efforts are coordinated and executed in a cost-effective manner, safely, and on time. Provides leadership and guidance to Shop Superintendents and oversees the development of shop procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Primary oversight of all production departments. Responsible for making strategic and tactical decisions related to all aspects of MHI's production work.
- Responsible for ensuring that all projects are manned with competent, properly trained and certified personnel, and that work efforts are prioritized, coordinated and efforts integrated between departments and executed safely, in a cost-effective manner and on time. Ensures performance is within the guidelines of the contracts/delivery orders and that all contractual requirements are met for U.S. Navy, Government, private shipyard, and commercial projects. Holds production meetings with all trades and Project Managers. Communicates with all department heads to ensure that any manning, scheduling, tooling, and material issues are identified and resolved.
- Walks through all in-plant vessels daily verifying all scheduled work is in progress and identifying and resolving any issues as they arise.
- Provides leadership and guidance to Shop Superintendents and oversees the development of shop procedures.
- Reviews all work specification items.
- Participates in Bid Review meetings with estimating to establish execution strategies and manhour estimates.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Estimating as requested.
- May on occasion be required to manage a project.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- College education and 15 years progressive experience in the maritime industry. (Apprenticeship and practical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.) Prior management experience required
- Ability to estimate.
- Basic knowledge of all skilled trades, and ability to manage effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively as a leader.
