Job SummaryUses advanced engineering concepts and campus objectives to lead and perform the work of an engineering team engaged in a specialized engineering field on a training and / or research program. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.The candidate will be immersed in a vibrant translational laboratory dedicated to develop and test neurosurgical and endovascular technologies. The main scope of the candidate work will be to use advanced mechanical engineering concepts for design and prototyping of medical devices and design verification testing. The candidate will have a solid background in CAD designing and prototyping, catheter, handles/actuators and electromechanical systems, advanced manufacturing techniques and documentation. The candidate should be familiar with experimental design and design input/output characterization and validation via pre-clinical testing (phantoms, animals and cadavers). The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The department is number one academic research publication productivity and recently named as one of the top Neurosurgery Training Programs in the country.
