Pay Package: Total weekly gross $1600
W2:$600/weekly
Per Diem/Stipend: $1000/weekly non taxable

Job Description:
  • Obtains blood specimens by various venipuncture and micro collection techniques as outlined in the appropriate procedure manual, properly labels and identifies blood and other specimens and transports them to the appropriate section of the laboratory.
  • Instructs patients in the proper collection techniques of various biological specimens including urine, stool, sputum, and semen.
  • Performs a limited number of routine laboratory procedures where procedural techniques are well understood but a thorough understanding of the physiological and chemical principles are not required, including urine glucose, throat culture collection, and giving skin tests. Sends a variety of biological specimens and requisitions through the couriers.
  • Insures that appropriate levels of supplies are maintained by submitting requests to the Supervisor. Receives supplies and expendables, labels as appropriate and distributes to appropriate storage/work area(s). Maintains work area(s) in a neat, clean, well stocked, and orderly condition.
  • Communicates with physicians, hospital personnel, patients, and visitors politely and promptly regarding patient information. Communicates unusual test requests/questions outside of normal established procedure to the Supervisor and/or Senior Laboratory Technician.
  • Attends laboratory in-services, continuing education/training programs, and section meetings to keep current with new techniques, procedures, policies, and safety practices.
  • Assists in various clerical tasks as required including order entry into the computer; assists in training and/or orientation of new personnel and students.
  • Performs EKG s.

Requirements:
  • Six months phlebotomy experience.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Program (MA) or equivalent, with certificate, preferred.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate phlebotomy equipment, other specimen equipment and laboratory computer equipment
  • Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
