The mission of City of New York (City) Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) is to support and strengthen New York City's creative economy and make it accessible to all. The agency comprises four divisions: the Film Office, which coordinates film and television production in public places; NYC Media, which operates the City of New York's television and radio network (Network); workforce and educational initiatives in film, television, theater, music, publishing, advertising, and digital content; and the Press Credentials Office, (PCO). The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment is seeking a Press Secretary who will report to the Associate Commissioner of Strategic Communications and work closely within a four-person communications team. The Press Secretary will support a variety of initiatives on behalf of the Mayor's Office, the agency and industry partners.

Responsibilities will include:

* Manage the day-to-day media relations for the agency and its divisions.

* Field incoming press inquiries and pitch story ideas related to MOME's portfolio and marketing efforts.

* Respond to relevant news cycles, offering MOME representatives to speak to the press.

* Write press releases to promote MOME services and initiatives.

* Work with City Hall comms/press teams and speechwriters for mayoral press conferences, press releases, events, etc.

* Maintain and build press contacts as well as a database of press coverage for the agency.

* Strategize on PR and marketing efforts.

* Help produce press events for MOME; and support partner press events via media outreach, quotes and speaking engagements.

* Write and edit stories for the MOME monthly newsletter.

* Help prepare and send weekly/daily press updates to City Hall's Communications office.

* Draft briefing documents, talking points, remarks/speeches on behalf of MOME as needed. Maintain and promote relevant stats about the industries in the MOME portfolio. Meet with

leadership/department heads/managers/teams regarding newsworthy initiatives.

* Help manage social media networks when necessary.

* Attend industry events to stay abreast of current trends and for networking purposes. Help suggest the events with which MOME should support/participate. Help prepare and distribute daily

news briefs to MOME staff when needed.

* Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.

HOURS/SHIFT

Day - Due to the necessary managerial duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to be on call and work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with 24 credits in English, journalism or public relations, plus five (5) years of full-time paid experience in public relations, journalism or advertising, including two (2) years in an administrative, supervisory or consultative capacity; or

2. A combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Graduate study in English, journalism, or public relations may be substituted for up to one year of required experience. However, all candidates must have at least two (2) years of administrative, supervisory, or consultative experience in public relations, journalism or advertising.

Preferred Skills

The preferred candidate should possess the following: - A minimum of 7 years of related communications experience - Demonstrated experience as a self-starter and ability to work independently. - Ability to positively contribute and work with a team. - Experience in public service and/or media and entertainment.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
