The Harlem YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Director who will provide leadership to the Aquatics Department at the YMCA. They will follow all YMCA and DOH aquatics standards to maintain safety for all aquatics programs in and around the swim area. The Aquatics Director will serve as a model to promote and demonstrate a professional demeanor (uniform and positive attitude) to other aquatics staff.

Key Responsibilities: Know and understand all YMCA, State, and local Health and Safety requirements, including Pool Safety Plan, Emergency Action Plan, Emergency Evacuation Routes, and staff certifications. Maintain adequate staffing (recruiting, training, hiring, and evaluating) of Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and Water Exercise Instructors to deliver programs. Identify Deck Supervisor and Aquatics Coordinator candidates. Conduct in-service training as required by the YMCA association. Develop, implement, track, and control the department's budget in accordance with the YMCA branch and association budget guidelines. Review program schedules, capacity staffing, and revenue to meet community needs and the YMCA mission. Collaborate and build relationships within the YMCA branch, YMCA association, and community organizations in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Maintain positive relationships with participants, parents/guardians, members, and staff. Show members and colleagues respect by listening carefully and showing empathy when dealing with difficult situations. Maintain all records in accordance with the law for pool maintenance, staff training and certifications, program member attendance and evaluation of participant skills, and DOH requirements. Attend Branch Board meetings and/or Membership/Program Committee meetings. Desired Skills & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience supervising Lifeguards and Swim Instructors. Must be at least 21 years old. Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (must attain YMCA LG certification within 90 days of hire). Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification or equivalent (must attain YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire). Current Basic Life Support (CPRO), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications. Demonstrate swim strokes, lifeguard rescues, and BLS (CPRO)/FA/EO skills. Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness. Responsible for recertification before expiration. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Certifications to attain within 180 days of hire: YMCA Pool Operator or equivalent and YMCA Aquatics Management. Certifications to attain within 1 year of hire: YMCA Introduction to Fiscal Management and YMCA Lifeguard Instructor and YMCA Supervision.
