Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Tactical Space Systems Division, seeks a qualified Principal Systems Engineer/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to serve as a utility Systems Engineer for a Ground/Software program. This position will be located in Dulles, VA and will require some travel. Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical role for the Space Security business area. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting, cutting-edge programs and new mission areas.

Duties include significant contributions to space vehicle ground segment systems engineering activities:

Requirement analysis and functional decomposition

System modeling and simulation

Mission analysis

Mission operations support

Conceptual, preliminary and detailed system and space vehicle design

Trade studies

Systems integration and test

System interface definition and management

Requirements/V&V

Business Development support

The candidate should be knowledgeable in system-of-systems engineering, ground segment design and integration, segment and subsystem interfaces, payloads, and/or mission operations. The role will include interface with clients, as well as regular interactions with internal engineering teammates and program management. The candidate may be called on to assist in new business activities such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies.

Basic Qualifications:

Systems Engineer Level (T3) - B.S. in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 5 years of experience; M.S. in STEM or related area and 3 years of experience.

Principal Systems Engineer Level (T4) - B.S. in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 8 years of experience; M.S. in STEM or related area and 6 years of experience.

Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

Experience working collaboratively across organizations

Experience working on Enterprise Software Products



Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to task and/or manage a group of diversified individuals with varying backgrounds to achieve mission success.

Experience with optimization techniques and their application to trajectory optimization and/or multi-objective optimization

Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor

Background/fundamental understand of performing statistical analysis

Experience working in a SAFe Agile SW Development Environment

Experience supporting multiple activities with competing priorities

Experience working on ground software systems

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
