The University of California, Berkeley is seeking a creative, self-motivated, user-oriented, and collaborative University Archivist to join the curatorial team in The Bancroft Library. Reporting to the head of the curatorial division, the University Archivist builds, stewards, promotes, and provides access to UC Berkeley's University Archives collection. Responsibilities include assessing collection needs, establishing collecting and processing priorities, and representing the collection area to the UC Berkeley community and the public. The Environment The UC Berkeley Library is an internationally renowned research and teaching facility. It serves a diverse campus community and comprises 20 campus libraries. The Bancroft Library is one of the largest libraries of rare materials in the West. Responsibilities Direct and set strategic priorities for the University Archives program. Identify, appraise, and acquire records that document the history of UC Berkeley. Work closely with university offices to transfer institutional records to the University Archives. Collaborate with curatorial colleagues on collection development policies. Promote and facilitate access and use of University Archives collections. Provide research assistance and instruction to internal and external constituents. Answer reference questions from UC Berkeley faculty, students, and researchers. Serve as principal curator for the library's Rowell Exhibition Cases. Assist in fundraising and grant activities. Contribute to the national and international reputation of the Bancroft and UC Berkeley Library. UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance and work effectively in a shared decision-making environment. Qualifications

Basic qualifications

(required at time of application): Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program. Additional qualifications

(required at time of start): Advanced degree. Three or more years working with archival materials. Preferred qualifications : Master's degree from an ALA accredited institution. Minimum of three years experience with institutional archives in an academic setting. Familiarity with copyright law and regulations relevant to institutional records. Experience with collection development and archival processing. Knowledge of acquiring and providing access to born-digital collections. Experience with research and reference services.
