Role Overview PI (Physik Instrumente), LP is the world leader in high precision positioning systems: Nano Positioning, Micro Positioning, Precision Motion and Automation Systems. Our product lines include piezoelectric-based nano positioners, motorized stepper and servo stages, and linear motor stages. Our customers are the leading OEM's and researchers in high tech fields such as semiconductor, photonics, biomedical, aerospace, astronomy, metrology, scientific instrumentation, and scientific research in microscopy and beam lines. PI has an immediate opening for an experienced full-time CNC Machinist Setup/Operator in our world-class machining and grinding facility. This position involves reading blueprints, programming in MasterCAM, executing operations per routings, setting up and operating machines that may include Haas CNC Mills and Lathes and manual equipment or processes at a higher challenging level of precision machining work. This position is based in Hopkinton, MA. The facility will be moving to Shrewsbury, MA in mid-2025. Responsibilities: Set up and run CNC mills and lathes (HAAS preferred). Read engineering drawings (blueprint reading). Programming experience is a must (Mastercam preferred). Understanding of GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerancing). Use knowledge of G&M codes in CNC programming process. Make adjustments with MDI at CNC machine tool control. Use common inspection equipment. Run parts on Haas CNC mills and lathes including 3 and 4 axis milling and lathe live tooling. Perform in-process and final inspection on those parts and verify they meet all print tolerances and specifications. Operate independently and go from print to part is a must. Skills and Qualifications: Ability to thrive in a team environment. Apprentice or technical schooling for precision machine shop experience (CNC or Manual). Ability to edit, troubleshoot and improve machining programs. Adept at working with a variety of materials under tight tolerances. Experience working with rigorous tight tolerances and minute measurements. Seasoned professional who can work under tight deadlines and match delivery dates. Capable of operating multiple machines, while meeting timeline demands and adhering to safety requirements. Growth mindset and a capacity for continual process improvement. Honest, trustworthy, and empathetic with colleagues. Ability to work independently.
