The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) is seeking an Experienced Software Automation Engineer located in El Segundo, California. As an Experienced Automation Engineer you will design, develop, test, and maintain non-embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards. You will develop, maintain, enhance, and optimize software products and functionalities for systems integrations. We are engineers and technicians, skilled scientists and bold innovators; Join us and put your passion, determination, and skill to work building the future TheFutureIsBuiltHere ChangeTheWorld Within BR&T’s Mission System Technologies (MST) organization, Boeing’s Advanced Computing Technology (ACT) team performs innovation, development and maturation of Advanced Computing and its associated subordinate technologies. This role will oversee developing, documenting, and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software products. Position Responsibilities: Designs, develops, tests, and maintains non-embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards Reviews, analyzes, and translates customer requirements into initial design of software products​Develops, maintains, enhances and optimizes software products and functionalities for systems integrations Develops, documents and maintains architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products Debugs and resolves issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products ​Handles user inquiries, troubleshoots technical issues and user feedback analysis ​Implements current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development Develops, establishes, monitors and improves software processes, tools and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks Executes and documents software research and development projects Advises on software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations Performs software project management activities and software supplier management functions ​​Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process compliance to project plans and industry standards This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements: This position requires the ability to obtain an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required) and ability to complete a CI (Counterintelligence) polygraph after employment start. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 3 years of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), including writing and testing PLC software in languages like Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block Diagrams 3 years of experience with design, development, operation, and maintenance of process equipment for control systems Experience with industrial control systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and instrumentation Experience reading and understanding process documentation including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, functional flow schematics, and control logic descriptions Experience with PID controller design and operating principals Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science Top Secret / SCI 5 years of experience in the following areas: programming {e.g. Siemens TIA Portal [Structured Control Language (SCL), Ladder Logic (LAD), Function Block Diagram (FBD)], Simatic WINCC V7 / SCADA, IEC 61131-3}, operating systems (e.g., Windows, Windows Server), SQL databases. 5 years of experience in the design, development, operation, and maintenance of process equipment control systems with PLCs 1 years of experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Access, MS SQL) and database management tasks, including, but not limited to schema design/implementation, scripting (e.g., PL/SQL, stored procedures) and schema-level troubleshooting Experience implementing and troubleshooting industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Profibus Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Travel: Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%. Relocation: This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
