POSITION TITLE:
School Nurse-Licensed Practical Nurse
REPORTS TO:
Superintendent, School Principal, Lead Nurse (R.N.)
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The school nurse is responsible for implementing school clinic procedures and providing general nursing services, including collaboration, health education, and the provision of school nursing services enhancing the educational opportunity for each student by promoting a climate of health and well-being in the school setting.
QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma and diploma from a Practical Nurse Program are required License Required: Licensed Practical Nurse from the Georgia Board of Nursing Current CPR/AED Certification Previous Pediatric, Community Health, and/or School Health nursing experience preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Basic computer skills required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Administers medications, special health procedures, and treatments as per MD orders and school system guidelines. Maintains up-to-date health records on students, and communicates with school staff on special needs of students. Provides minor first aid and emergency care to students and staff. Provides in-service for school staff, as needed. Recommends exclusion and readmission of students in relation to infectious and contagious diseases and conditions. Makes referral for student health needs. Attends IEP and evaluation meetings as needed. Conducts or coordinates school health screenings as needed. Maintains clean and orderly clinic area, clinic records and supplies. Communicates with parents, school personnel, physicians, and other agencies on school health matters. Carries out tasks assigned by building principal or superintendent. Maintains confidentiality of individual student health status. Consults with R.N. (Lead Nurse) for advice and support regarding student health, contagious disease management, or special health concerns.
