Job Description:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the delivery of primary medical care to a student population focusing on preventative, maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician's assistants and nurse practitioners. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with all areas of the SHC, and be committed to advancing the divisional priorities of commitment to quality, communicating a sense of home, designing with everyone in mind, and cultivating a working relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health.
Job Responsibilities:
90% - Provides assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate medical management for acute illnesses, injuries and stable chronic illnesses as well as primary care services such as health maintenance care and annual physicals; orders appropriate diagnostic tests, prescribes medication, performs minor surgical procedures, and makes specialty, counseling and coaching referrals as appropriate; documents care in the electronic health record, employing care protocols and proper coding. Seeks consultation with director/ physician in maintaining both acute and chronic cases as needed.
5% - Participates in unit meetings, campus education initiatives, quality improvement activities, mandatory LSU trainings and SHC yearly trainings, peer review and performance improvement studies.
5% - Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
* NP - Master's In Science, Nursing from an accredited college or university * Board Certification: Possess a certification by a nationally recognized certifying body, such as the AANP; RN License - APRN License: Advance Practice Registered Nurse License; DEA: Federal drug enforcement agency license ; CDS: Louisiana State Controlled Substance License; BLS/CPR
Preferred Qualifications:
* 2 years experience * Experience working with traditional college age students; experience in a college health setting; commitment to practice that supports a collaborative care model.
Additional Requirements/Expectations:
Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
May be required to work occasional nights, holidays, and weekends.
In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
