SUMMARY

The Mate is responsible for directing and managing the Deckhands and completing work activities associated with the maintenance and operation of dredges, dredge pipelines, and dredge auxiliary equipment.
Must be able to work 8 to 12 hour shifts, on all types of dredges or marine construction projects Extensive travel will be required for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following, additional duties may be assigned:
Manages Deckhands and assists to:Secure mooring lines to the dredge, scows, dredge tender or attending plant Splices and repairs cables and towing ropes Sweeps and washes down all decks on the dredge and attending plant Assists with work on the pontoon line, submerged line, scow or attending plant Assists with work on the anchors and spud systems Assists with cleaning of the pump and work on the cutterhead Acts as signal person for the equipment operators Helps to unload and load pipe as well as secure pipe to trucks Chips, paints, sweeps and washes down equipment on the job site Inspect shore pipe for leaks and assists with work on the pipe Safely secure the work area to allow only authorized personnel onto work zone Operate four wheel rough terrain vehicles for transport and delivery Loads and unloads materials from the dredge, deck barges, and miscellaneous equipment Perform JSA’s prior to work activity and execute the work accordingly Responsible for writing / participating in JSA’s for the safe execution of all work projects. Responsible for assuring those skill sets of personnel under their direction align to the task at hand. Sets operational, safety and environmental goals for the work Maintains appropriate levels of crew and supporting equipment Follows USCG rules and regulations Maintain and enforce a safe working environment. Ensures compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct. Maintain a high standard of ethical behavior, encourages ethical behavior in others, supports ethical decisions and actively seeks appropriate resolution to potential ethical conflicts. Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS
2+ years’ experience in a marine environment, preferably with dredges, dredge pipelines, and dredge auxiliary equipment. Must be able to travel and work a rotating schedule Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must have a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in rough seas, vibrations, heat and high noise levels Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites Able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
