VP of Design

A prominent private label apparel company that sells to retailers like Target, Walmart, and others is looking for a full-time VP of Design to head up all of creative. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and the ability to articulate a clear and compelling design vision that aligns with the business goals. This position is based in DTLA and the salary is based on experience, $200k DOE.

As a Vice President of Design, soft skills are as critical as technical expertise to lead effectively and foster innovation.

  1. Inspiring Vision: Ability to articulate a clear and compelling design vision.
  2. Empowering Teams: Fostering a sense of ownership and autonomy among designers.
  3. Strategic Thinking: Making decisions that align design objectives with business goals.
  4. Communication:
    1. Storytelling: Presenting ideas and concepts in an engaging, persuasive way.
    2. Active Listening: Understanding team and stakeholder needs deeply.
    3. Stakeholder Management: Bridging communication between design teams, executives, and other departments.
    4. Cross-Functional Partnership: Working seamlessly with Sales, PD, Tech Design, Production, Account Managers, etc.
    5. Conflict Resolution: Managing disagreements constructively with a focus on win-wins for both the company and retail partners.
  5. Empathy:
    1. Team Sensitivity: Recognizing and addressing the emotions, challenges, and motivations of team members while ensuring that the company goals and initiatives are not compromised.
    2. Guiding the team through organizational or strategic changes.
    3. Openness to Feedback: Receiving and acting on constructive criticism.

    1. Talent Development: Identifying and nurturing potential within the team.
  7. Problem-Solving:
