Position Overview: The LVT at CCHS sets the tone for the Medical Program and its interactions with staff, volunteers, and the public. The LVT oversees in-house surgeries, the public low cost clinic, TNR/Community Cat, rescue groups, as well as, providing quality medical care for the CCHS animals. The LVT functions as part of a team with Behavior, Animal Care, Foster, and Adoption Programs. Key Responsibilities: The LVT at CCHS performs health evaluations on all shelter animals, maintains all medical records, and assists with all animals being released post-operatively. The LVT will proactively look to implement improved protocols whenever possible. The LVT while under supervision will maintain accurate and complete controlled drug logs pursuant to DEA and NYS Narcotics. Essential Functions: Treat all individuals with dignity and respect. Maintain a professional relationship with the public and staff. Ability to be waiting to be engaged (as needed) evenings and weekends outside of scheduled hours. Will work Tuesday through Saturday, rotate on call Sundays. Assist Veterinarian during surgery. Evaluate incoming animals and make recommendations for health / behavior and placement within our programs. Follow shelter protocols for medications, anesthesia, euthanasia and vaccinations. Maintain health, vaccinations, and medication records for all shelter animals. Evaluate, prescribe, and administer medications to shelter animals on-site, in foster, and/or post-adoption period for any shelter related illness per Veterinarian approved protocols. Demonstrate a high level of leadership at all times. Communicate medical and behavioral information to appropriate staff, as needed. For surgical patients, assist and perform health checks prior to anesthesia, administer anesthesia, provide surgical prep, vaccinations, microchipping, monitor, provide post-operative care, surgical recovery, medical record data entry, and dental prophylaxis (as needed). Interact with customers relating to intake, foster care, surgical care (post-operative and discharge), medical needs, and processing of payments as required. Proficient use of PetPoint to input and track medical needs. Proficient use of IDEXX machines. Perform euthanasia and process paperwork. Work with Clinic and Foster Coordinators to maintain flow of animals and their health care. Additional Duties: Providing continual education regarding medical care and husbandry for shelter staff and volunteers. Maintain all medical equipment; report any problems to LVT Medical Manager. Assist in ensuring inventory and ordering medical supplies follows budgetary guidelines. Recruit, train, and assist medical volunteers. Report any maintenance or facility issues to the appropriate person. Other duties as assigned to assist with CCHS Mission, Vision, and Values. Position Requirements: Associate's Degree (or higher) Current and maintaining NYS Licensed Veterinarian Technician Experience handling all animals (large and small) Ability to obtain and hold Euthanasia Certification (within three months of hire) Computer literacy Strong effective communication skills including the ability to speak clearly and listen effectively Ability to use sound judgment in decision making and solution finding Valid Driver's License Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $17 - $20 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
