Position description

Junior or Assistant Specialist - Nicolas-Avila lab

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in immunology and/or cardiac physiology to support our laboratory research activities. The initial responsibilities will include providing support with mouse colony management, performing genotyping, preparing reagents, and assisting other team members with their research projects. As the individual gains independence, we expect them to take on more complex tasks such as independently collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. They will also participate in laboratory group meetings and other scientific discussions, present and discuss their research findings, write experimental protocols, contribute to study design, and assist in manuscript preparation.

Position offered will depend on:

  • Years of research experience.
  • Proof of scientific contribution in CV.
  • Proof of communicational skills during interview.

Required Qualifications:

  • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in Biology or related field or at least four years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a Master's degree in Biology or related field or a baccalaureate degree in Biology or related field with 3 or more years of research experience.
  • Prior laboratory research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in immunology and/or cardiac physiology research.
  • Proven experience in working with mice and managing animal colonies.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA purification and PCR.
  • Skilled in cell culture, including maintenance, cell isolation and culture, differentiation and activation of leukocyte populations, and cryopreservation.
  • Expertise in flow cytometry, including single-cell suspension preparation, staining, acquisition, and analysis, as well as knowledge of antibody panel design and advanced flow data analysis.
  • Experienced in tissue cryosectioning, OCT embedding, and immunohistochemical staining. Competence in brightfield and fluorescence confocal microscopy, as well as quantitative image analysis.
