Hospital Coder- DRG

General Function: Assigning ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes with CPT codes and modifiers where applicable to the records of discharged patients. Expediting coding of these records as accurately and efficiently as possible to achieve maximum accounts receivable. Assigning Present on Admission indicators is also necessary to ensure the most accurate DRG is captured. Inpatient coding steers reimbursement and the case mix for the facility. Accuracy and competence is an essential part of coding to ensure appropriate code assignments. Ongoing team participation and continual learning of coding skills is necessary to provide SCRMC with quality coding. Job Duties: Assign appropriate code for all records (Inpatient and Outpatient) to include all financial classes utilizing ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS and CPT systems with compliance of Medicare, Medicaid, and standard coding guidelines Correspondence with physicians regarding coding/documentation issues Knowledge of DNFB - ability to retrieve and code as deemed necessary Assist in training new personnel Assist Utilization Review, Admissions and Patient Accounts staff as necessary Enhance professional growth and development through education programs as offered General office knowledge to help in all areas of the department as may be necessary AHIMA, AAPC or similar coding certification
