Minimum Salary: $75,000 (+ $3,400 location pay)

Maximum Salary: $75,000 (+$3,400 location pay)

Description: Purchase College Library is seeking a collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented individual for the position of Head of Technical Services. This position provides leadership, management, and strategic direction for all Technical Services operations including acquisitions, cataloging and catalog maintenance, periodicals and serials, government documents, cataloging and metadata management of media collections in all formats, binding, materials processing, collections preservation workflows, and weeding. Provides budgetary and collections analytics reports monthly. This position reports to the Library Director. The Head of Technical Services supervises the Acquisition and Collections Coordinator, and Government Documents Specialist.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master of Library Science and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • Minimum five years of experience with management of integrated library systems and technical services functions, including experience with acquisitions, cataloging, resource management, and serials.
  • Advanced knowledge of cataloging principles and practices, including experience cataloging with RDA, MARC21, LCSH, and LCC.
  • Knowledge of authority work and experience using metadata management tools such as OCLC Connexion, WorldShare Record Manager, and MarcEdit.
  • Knowledge of metadata schemas, formats, standards, and protocols.
  • Experience in a supervisory role including hiring, training, and evaluating staff and student workers, and setting goals and priorities.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Strong service orientation and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent public service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to adapt to changing technological environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in an academic library.
  • Experience working with the ExLibris Alma and Primo platforms.
  • Knowledge of linked data and emerging and evolving standards, practices, and frameworks for bibliographic metadata, including BIBFRAME and the Official RDA Toolkit.
  • Knowledge of critical issues in cataloging including standards and best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion in description.
  • Experience in a supervisory role, in a library technical services department, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff and student workers, and setting goals and priorities.
