About the Agency:

The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Purpose of Position:

The Position is part of the Emergency Services Branch for the 41,000 acre Joint Training Center (JTC) Fort Barfoot comprised of Garrison Area, Maneuver Training Areas, Range Areas, Blackstone Army Airfield (BAAF) and Natural Forested Areas. Major elements of response include but is not limited to Fire Prevention, Protection & Education; Emergency Medical Services; and Emergency Response. The position is mission critical to JTC operations and to the sustainment of VANG Readiness and lethality. The Position receives general administrative supervision from the Emergency Services Assistant Chief in terms of broadly defined missions and goals.

Qualified applicants will be interviewed on February 3, 2025 beginning at 7:45am EST for this position. Applicants selected for an interview will not be given an alternate date. Applicants selected for an interview will need to bring physical copies of their certifications, two notarized forms, a fit for duty form signed by a licensed medical professional, and a copy of their driving record that is no more than 30 days old.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of and skill in, firefighting, rescue and EMS operations, principles, practices, techniques and use of specialize equipment;

Knowledge of Incident Command and strategies/tactics and ability to deploy those strategies/tactics during emergency operations;

Ability to work under pressure; identify and analyze needed data; make decisions; and maintain emotional self-control;

The ability to be open−minded;

Possess basic knowledge of Fire & EMS department operations;

The ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively with a wide variety of people; and the ability to write clear, concise reports;

Possess knowledge of other agencies (local, state, and federal) that can assist in times of need;

Ability to perform Emergency Medical Technician Basic Life Support duties;

Ability to use specialized firefighting, emergency medical services, record management, scheduling and incident management & command computerized hardware and software systems.

Must possess Firefighter II, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Level 3 and HAZMAT Operations certifications.

Additional Considerations

EMT/Intermediate or EMT/Paramedic certification is preferred;

ICS/NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certification is preferred.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is required within 12 months of hire.

Must obtain Driver Pump Operator, NWCG S-130/190, ARFF Firefighter certification, and EVOC Level 5 within 24 months of hire.

Must successfully pass both the physical agility and written entrance examinations prior to hire.

Must successfully pass the NFPA 1582 physical within 90 days of hire.

Must successfully complete all required In-House recruit training within 12 months of hire.

Must have, and maintain, a valid Virginia Driver's License for the duration of employment;
