Communications & Content Specialist Salary Range: $70-100K Job Overview: The Communications & Content Specialist will play a vital role in shaping the school's internal and external communications through compelling written and visual storytelling. This individual will have the unique opportunity to create engaging content across digital and print platforms, contributing to projects that bring the school's mission to life. As an integral member of the storytelling team, key responsibilities include building brand awareness, enhancing the school's digital presence, and producing compelling content that resonates with prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be creative and resourceful, adept at working across a variety of mediums with a keen eye for bringing stories to life both verbally and visually. A relationship builder who is outgoing and comfortable with a variety of stakeholders and personalities, the person in this role will collaborate with different departments and parent/partner organizations to foster relationships and ensure consistent, inclusive, and impactful storytelling across all platforms. Through content creation and storytelling, the Communications & Content Specialist will help to drive engagement both internally and externally while supporting retention, recruitment, and revenue objectives, as well as broader institutional goals. The Communications & Content Specialist will bring an understanding of how to work with data and tech teams to increase engagement and expand storytelling across platforms. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this is an exciting opportunity for a creative communicator to elevate University High School's written and visual storytelling, digital presence, and community engagement through innovation and collaboration. Key responsibilities and areas include: Content creation & storytelling Website Photography & videography Social media Systems & metrics Requirements Key Responsibilities: Storytelling & Content Creation Build a deep understanding of and familiarity with the school's key messaging pillars: mission, vision, values, community agreements, equity statement, etc. In the context of key messaging and brand guidelines, create written and visual content that builds a consistent and authentic narrative about the school community, culture, programs, and people. Written content includes articles, blog and social posts, email campaigns, and more. Visual content includes photography, videography, slide decks, branded visual assets, and more. Solicit, create, edit, and publish key digital content for the website, such as news stories, blog posts, and articles that highlight the school's activities and programs. Develop relationships with faculty, staff, administration, parents, and students to find and share stories that highlight school achievements, student success, and community involvement. In collaboration with the admissions team, create innovative campaigns that inform and engage current and prospective families. In collaboration with the development team, create innovative content that supports fundraising efforts. As a key brand steward, ensure all content aligns with the school's Style Guide and branding guidelines. Assist with the production of the school magazine and other publications Attend school events to identify content and understand school culture. Website: Periodically review website pages for accuracy and relevance to ensure consistency and maximize impact. Assist with development and implementation of new website. Ensure website has up-to-date photos and videos that accurately and authentically represent the school's programs and community. Photography & Videography : Document day-to-day school life through photography and videography. Create engaging visual campaigns to promote the school's programs, admissions, and community events Work both independently and in collaboration with external vendors, photographers, and videographers to capture dynamic high-quality multimedia content that reflect the school's vibrant student life, academic programs, extracurricular activities, and special events. Maintain the school's image library and video archives, ensuring a comprehensive digital asset library for easy access for ongoing website, email, social, and print material needs. Social Media Management : Own and manage the School's social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). Develop, implement, and manage the social media content calendar to ensure consistent, engaging posts that align with the school's messaging, goals, and brand guide. Create and post regular content (photos, videos, graphics, and written posts) that highlights the programs, achievements, events, and community life. Monitor and respond to social media comments and messages in a timely and professional manner. Collaborate with key stakeholders to strategize on ways to drive engagement. Systems & Metrics Stay up-to-date with trends in content marketing, education, and digital communication to keep strategies fresh and effective. Monitor and analyze content performance and provide regular reports on engagement, conversions, and other key metrics to inform future strategies. Ensure all content adheres to the school's branding guidelines, creating a cohesive visual identity across all platforms. Track performance metrics and adjust strategies based on insights and analytics. Interface with data and tech teams to understand how data integration and tech tools inform user experience Work with data and tech teams as needed to improve user experience for the purpose of increased engagement Experience & Qualifications Outstanding verbal and written communication skills across various platforms, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy. Exemplary and meticulous proofreading and editing skills. High level of creativity with an eye for detail and design; a portfolio of visual storytelling and/or writing samples may be requested. Familiarity with brand management. Familiarity with digital tools such as Canva, Hootsuite, Issuu, Google Workspace, Google Analytics, Finalsite, Blackbaud, etc. Ability to manage a large library of digital assets and organize multiple projects simultaneously. Proficient in preparing multimedia assets (photo, video, audio) for digital use. Experience working within digital platforms such as social media channels, content management systems, and digital design tools. Experience working in communications, branding, or marketing, with a focus on content creation and storytelling. Tech savvy and comfortable with data.
