The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the most senior financial professional at the College and is responsible for the fiscal health of the institution. Reporting to the President, the role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role is two-fold: Oversee the organization's financial activities, including being responsible for the finance and accounting professionals who perform operations functions, and serve in a strategic advisory role for the President and leadership team. In addition to meeting revenue and earnings goals, effectively managing cash flow is in the CFO's purview.

The CFO leads business, financial and information technology operations for the College and may help set technology direction and make recommendations on everything from supply chain to marketing based on fiscal insights and industry knowledge. The CFO has an eye toward the future, working closely with top leadership, including the Board of Trustees, and recommends strategic moves.

Specific duties include:

  1. Helping select skilled staff for the finance team, and working with departments to allocate budget for human capital management
  2. Coordinating the development of and adherence to College-wide and program budgets and long-range financial planning
  3. Aligning budgets with strategic priorities
  4. Identifying and exploring alternative revenue streams
  5. Ensuring that accounts payable obligations are paid in full, and controlling expenses so that enough cash is on hand to meet financial obligations
  6. Overseeing information technology programs, including intensive end user support
  7. Overseeing human resources initiatives and functions
  8. Assisting with WSCUC and AACSB accreditation-related initiatives
  9. Overseeing the management of payroll, benefits administration, and employee records, and all systems that support those functions
  10. Maintaining a strategic focus on ensuring a strong return on investment (ROI)
  11. Coordinating and overseeing mandated audits
  12. Accurately predicting likely future outcomes, which includes financial forecasting and modeling based on past performance, as well as on internal and external factors that may affect future revenue and expenses
  13. Ensuring financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements that help both internal leaders and external stakeholders understand the financial state of the College
  14. Attesting that the statements are accurate and complete in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  15. Promoting and engaging in program assessment activities
  16. Preparing Board agendas and other materials, and writing minutes of the Board committee meetings

The CFO must be a forward-looking leader with strong strategic and analytical skills, proven success in ensuring access and maintaining diversity, and an excellent manager, mentor, and collaborator. The CFO facilitates a shared leadership culture through the development of functional teams, and is accountable for developing and implementing the means to accomplish the College's financial goals.

Qualifications:

  1. Ten years' experience in a senior role, with demonstrated experience in accounting and financial services preferably in higher education
  2. MBA, other master's degree in accounting, finance or economics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  3. A successfully-completed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination preferred
  4. Up-to-date knowledge of current financial and accounting computer applications
  5. Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written communication skills
  6. Demonstrated experience working independently or in teams with diverse constituents with the ability to anticipate and initiate next steps
  7. Successful track record of managing and supervising professional staff
  8. Demonstrated experience in strategic and operational planning, as well as budget development
