Housekeeping

JOB DESCRIPTION


SUMMARY:


Works as a team member to perform day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards. Works under the supervision of the Administrator. The list demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed to be a Housekeeper. This list is not a complete list of duties and requirements of the Housekeeping department.


  1. Assure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures.
  2. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor.
  3. Coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing service.
  4. Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
  5. Empty and sanitize ash trays daily.
  6. Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in resident rooms, recreational areas, etc., daily as instructed.
  7. Clean, wash, sanitize, and polish bathroom fixtures. Assure that water marks are removed from fixtures.
  8. Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreations areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
  9. Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. (Note: Assure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.)
  10. Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
  11. Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
  12. Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
  13. Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
  14. Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
  15. Assure that work areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at tall times, as well as before leaving such area for breaks, meal times, and end of work day.
  16. Perform terminal cleaning procedures, as instructed, when a resident is discharged and/or transferred to another room.
  17. Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers.
  18. Maintain the confidentiality of resident information.
  19. Honor the residents' personal and property rights.



QUALIFICATIONS:


Must possess, as a minimum, a 10th grade education



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


To be successful in this job, the employee must be able to stand and walk during the shift.Movements required are bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, pushing/pulling, and reach above shoulder level.Hand use is not constant and low stress.Hand use will include occasional griping, squeezing, and using the fingers to feel and control objects.The individual must be able to carry 30 pounds and be able to lift and move 75 pounds or more.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


While doing this job the Housekeeper could be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and body fluids, which can contain AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. Chemical exposures are limited to cleaners, disinfectants, and personal care items. Nursing assistants occasionally work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and holidays.
