Job Description This role is responsible for leading the transformation of our licensing activities for nuclear reactor technology by defining and driving innovative approaches to streamline the licensing process with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and state and local agencies. The role will focus on reducing the timeframe for site licensing and revamping environmental reviews, embracing and implementing change at every level. By leveraging strong relationships with regulatory partners and collaborating effectively with business units, the role will develop strategies that front-load environmental activities and influence NRC policy. This role requires a proactive leader capable of identifying opportunities for transformation and translating vision into executable plans. This role will also help develop strategies to leverage U.S. licensing to facilitate efficient international licensing.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies to streamline the licensing process for new nuclear plants, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while reducing inefficiencies. Create and execute plans to front-load environmental activities, enhancing the efficiency of site evaluations and environmental reviews. Cultivate strong working relationships with NRC officials and stakeholders to advocate for and influence policy changes that support expedited licensing processes. Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify regulatory challenges early in the project lifecycle, fostering effective collaboration and strategic alignment. Design and execute comprehensive plans to achieve licensing goals, demonstrating a strong ability to think independently and translate vision into action. Oversee environmental licensing activities, ensuring a thorough understanding of the review process and compliance with environmental regulations. Provide expertise in siting considerations, including geology and hydrology, crucial for Chapter Two licensing processes. Manage Licensing staff by ensuring staff are meeting expectations and promoting staff professional development. Explore opportunities for international licensing, leveraging experience in countries such as the United Kingdom (UK) and Canada to guide strategic initiatives. Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication. Perform other duties as necessary.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical sciences. Typically, fifteen to seventeen years of experience in regulatory affairs, with a focus on nuclear reactor licensing. Proven experience working directly with or for regulatory bodies, particularly the NRC. In-depth knowledge of new reactor licensing issues and environmental licensing processes. Strong understanding of siting considerations, including geological and hydrological factors. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute plans effectively. Basic knowledge of international licensing processes, particularly in the UK and Canada.
