Job Summary

Provision of optimum nursing care through direct patient contact, teaching, consultation, research and education.

Responsibilities • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families. • Assess nursing needs of patient populations and assists staff in evaluation and provision of patient and family needs. • Serve as a professional role model and participates in planning, implementing, and evaluation of patient care. • Assess staff learning needs. • Establish educational opportunities for staff and other members of the interdisciplinary team. • Act as a resource to teach professional nursing in the area of clinical expertise. • Guide health education of patients and their families. • Act as a consultant to staff by assisting in establishing standards of nursing practice and the continuum of care and participates as an active member on related committees. • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to direct and evaluate care of complex patients. • Collaborate with staff and managers in developing and implementing an ongoing system of quality improvement. • Identify clinical research questions and assists with the design and implementation of clinical studies. • Maintain personal skill levels within nursing and specific areas of expertise by attending appropriate programs, utilizing resource material, and maintaining clinical practice. • Publish research studies in professional literature. • Act as a resource to hospitals and the community. • Provide education to students in community, organizations, pre- hospital providers, schools of nursing, and other health and public safety agencies. • Maintain permanent records of referrals. • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams in the hospital to direct and evaluate care of complex patients, acting as a resource link between CAMC and the community - based groups. • Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement

Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.

Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education • Master's Degree • Bachelor's Degree (Required) Education: Clinical Specialist Practicum is PreferredExperience: 5-7 Years Related experience in acute/critical care practice settingComments: Requires the ability to be flexible in order to handle spontaneous situations that arise with patients and staff.
