The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Controller and indirectly supports the VP of Accounting and Finance. The Accounting Manager will support the Controller with the monthly close process, financial reporting, audits, custodial treasury duties, subledger reconciliation, accrual accounting, internal controls, and timely financial reporting monthly for Multi-State Operations (MSO).

The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Controller and indirectly supports the VP of Accounting and Finance. The Accounting Manager will support the Controller with the monthly close process, financial reporting, audits, custodial treasury duties, subledger reconciliation, accrual accounting, internal controls, and timely financial reporting monthly for Multi-State Operations (MSO).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Close & Internal Controls
- Assists the Controller in the month-end close process, including managing close calendar for all staff and timely reporting
- Active participant in management of financial controls, including monthly financial close, with analysis necessary for operational and strategic insights.
- Assists oversight of all areas of financial controlling such as general accounting, cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, payroll, payables, receivables, and credit memos.
- Prepares key daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations and roll-forwards, including bank reconciliations, General Ledger to subledger reconciliation (accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, fixed assets), GAAP accrual accounting to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Assists the Controller in preparing and recording timely accrual accounting based on monthly results, including revenue recognition, incentives, A/P accrual, provision for income taxes, and other accruals on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Learns and leverages the best practices of month-end close to shorten the close process to 8 business days and streamline wherever possible with a long-term goal to close in 5 business days or less.
- Prepares monthly internal unaudited financial statements with review by Controller and VP of Accounting & Finance
- Assists Controller with preparation of support for quarterly cost accounting audits and annual financial statements audits.
- Ensures timely collection of all accounts receivable, payment of all accounts payable, as well as valuation of inventory and fixed assets.
- Reconciles intercompany receivables and payables between respective legal entities within corporate structure within respective states.
- Prepares financial control documentation and provides insights into finance transformation and automation via Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Generative AI (Gen AI), and other Financial Technology (FinTech).
- Oversees Concur Expense, Audit, and Invoice processes including: system integrations, employee compliance with expense policies, and oversight of Staff Accountant on daily processing and coding of transactions.
- Assist with API-based ERP integrations between existing software and e-commerce systems
- Assists the Controller in Managing the Financial Statement reporting software, including updates to Chart of Accounts (COA) and consistent historical reporting.
- Support treasury and cash flow forecast by providing timely and accurate information regarding on and off-balance sheet expected cash inflows/outflows from operating, investing, and financing activities, with input from Controller and VP of Accounting and Finance.
- Serve as primary treasury custodian including management of bank accounts, oversight of positive pay, fraud resolution, and wire/bank limit requests.
- Coordinates with Bank to ensure timely BAI file reporting and reconciliations as well as Cannabis related reporting and compliance.
- Manages corporate debit card programs and related reconciliations.
- Partners with Controller ensure timely reconciliation of cash adequate to support growth company working capital, with timely reconciliation of cash daily.
- Partners with Purchasing Manager(s) and Coordinators on procurement of goods and services to support business and working capital planning for both retail and wholesale.
- Partners with the VP of Accounting and Finance, Development Team, and Executive Team to track and maintain budget to actual (accrual and cash basis) reporting for ongoing development projects.
- Partners with VP of Accounting, CFO, Controller, and Executive Team to provide valued added insights on financial trends and budget to actual variance drivers.
- Serve as proxy to Controller in the event of absence through supervision of Accounting Staff and approvals (as applicable).
Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance or other relevant field required
Master's degree / MBA valued not required. - Accounting / Financial certification valued not required, including CPA, CMA, CGMA, or others
6+ years of experience working in accounting or finance in a corporate environment, and/or 5+ years of experience working in public accounting or related professional services preferred, serving manufacturing clients. - Experience required with monthly financial close, internal controls, budgeting, cash flow planning, financial forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Expert level Excel User required, with data-driven system approach preferred
- Moderate level User of Other Microsoft Office Products preferred, including PowerBI, Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerApps, and Teams
- Experience with CPM solutions preferred, such as Vena, Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, Planful or similar
- Additional relevant software experience valued, including Tableau or similar
- Experience with SaaS-based ERP systems preferred, such as Sage Intacct, Process Pro, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

- Ability to work independently or with a group, including the leadership team, IT, Accounting, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, and Operations.
- Experience working in a licensed medical marijuana business, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), or highly regulated industry preferred (FDA, other)
- At least 21 years of age
- Ability to pass a background check
- Standing and moving for 2-3 hours at a time
- Long periods of prolonged sitting and standing
- Long periods of prolonged use of office equipment including computers and phones
- Requires normal range of hearing & manual dexterity to operate a computer
- May require lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Similar to a busy manufacturing facility or warehouse
- Constant interaction with internal and external stakeholders
- Optional part-time remote work, based on candidate
