Description
The Mission, Concepts and Capabilities (MCC) division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an outstanding Data Science Intern opportunity for a full-time student who is looking to gain meaningful work experience in the field of data science. The qualified intern will be part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers developing innovative learning tools and training materials for weapons effects applications using the Jupyter ecosystem and Python.
The candidate will develop new interactive training aids and materials, including dashboards, notebooks, applets, and interactive visualizations, designed to support enhanced learning and transform legacy training materials into the 21 st century. Development will primarily utilize the Jupyter ecosystem (e.g., Jupyter Notebooks, Jupyter Lab, Jupyter Books, etc.) and Python. The candidate will new prototype new solutions to augment existing training materials and datasets using state-of-the-art visualization libraries and tools.
Some tools and visualizations libraries the candidate may use include:
Jupyter Notebook, Jupyter Lab, Jupyter Books, Binder, Voila, iPyWidgets
Plotly, Matplotlib, Bokeh, Seaborn, Pandas, NumPy, Julia
PyVista, HoloViews, Panel, Bqplot
As an ARA intern, you will have opportunities for career advancement and continued learning outside of your primary job functions. ARA interns participate in teambuilding activities, attend technical brownbag presentations, and gain experience working in a professional office environment. Each ARA intern will prepare and present a technical briefing overviewing their work to the ARA technical staff at the conclusion of their internship.
This position is in-person and will last for approximately 12 weeks. Please note that ARA does not provide housing assistance or relocation stipends.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to program in Python
Eagerness to learn new tools and techniques
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Must be a currently enrolled, full-time student in a Bachelor’s Degree program or above in Data Science, Computational Science, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, or related field at an accredited university
Desired Experience:
Experience using the Jupyter ecosystem (e.g., Jupyter Notebook, Jupyter Lab, Jupyter Books, etc.)
Familiarity with interactive visualizations in Python using tools such as Matplotlib, Plotly, Seaborn, Pandas, Bokeh, and Panel
Entering final year of study
