Position Overview Reporting to the Chief of Staff & Vice President of Strategy, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) will lead the information technology strategy and operations at UMW. This executive role is critical for advancing the university's mission through innovative and effective use of technology. The CIO will oversee IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, administrative computing, computing support, digital transformation, and data governance. Strategic Priorities and Opportunities The next CIO joins UMW at a pivotal moment of technological transformation in higher education. They will play a crucial role in leading university-wide discussions on artificial intelligence implementation, ensuring that UMW thoughtfully and effectively incorporates AI capabilities while addressing associated challenges and ethical considerations. The CIO will also spearhead a comprehensive review and potential enhancement of the university's ERP system, focusing on modernizing and streamlining business processes across all administrative units. Critical to the CIO's success will be their ability to work collaboratively with Academic Affairs and the academic technology unit to enhance teaching, learning, and research through technology integration. This partnership extends beyond traditional IT support to include innovative solutions that advance pedagogical excellence and support faculty development in digital literacy and technology-enhanced instruction.
