Position Description Position Title:
Director, Generalist OB/GYN Division
Rank/Series:
Professor or Associate Professor
Department:
Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences
University of California, San Francisco
Position Overview:
The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), is seeking a board-certified OB/GYN Generalist at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor to serve as the Director of the Generalist OB/GYN Division (OGGS). This division includes a diverse group of OB/GYN generalists, specialists, and researchers in areas such as Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology (PAG), Family Planning, Dysplasia, Menopause, Benign Breast, Maternal Health Equity, and Gender Affirming Surgical and Hormonal Care. The division is renowned for its commitment to medical education, with many educational leaders among its faculty.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in leading a division through growth. Over the past decade, the OGGS Division has transitioned from a small, mostly gynecology-based group into a large and expanding division encompassing generalists, obstetricians, and gynecologic subspecialists in both surgery and clinical practice across 6 different clinical sites. To meet the continued growing needs of the UCSF Health community, the director needs to continue with this expansion, including the hiring of new generalists and subspecialists to support new ambulatory centers across the Bay Area and potentially new inpatient units.
Central to this position are excellent communication, supervision, and mentorship skills across all our academic missions (research, clinical, and education) to meet the individual career mentorship needs of the faculty members.
In addition, the Division Director will be expected to foster strong cross-divisional collaborations and develop respectful partnerships with the division's program manager, the UCSF Health system, and the department's central administrative leadership team.
The OGGS Division provides comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to patients at the following clinical sites: UCSF/Parnassus, UCSF/Mount Zion, UCSF/Bay Front, UCSF/Mission Bay, San Francisco General Hospital, Berkeley Outpatient Clinic, and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland campuses. In 2025, care will also expand to the new Ambulatory Surgical Center at the Berkeley Outpatient Clinic in Berkeley, California.
Qualifications:
Board certification in OB/GYN at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
A valid California Medical License upon start.
A minimum of five years of leadership experience, ideally at the division or program level, within an academic medical center.
A minimum of five years of experience in an academic medical center.
A demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity and workforce diversity, with experience in hiring, mentoring, and retaining diverse faculty.
Strong record of successful mentorship across academic missions, including cultivating the next generation of reproductive health clinicians and leaders.
Endowed Chair:
This position includes a recommendation for a five-year term as the
Grace Marie Waldrop, MD Endowed Chair in Obstetrics & Gynecology , pending approval by the Dean of the School of Medicine. This administrative chair provides discretionary funds to the OGGS Division Director to support division-related initiatives.
UCSF Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences has a total salary plan that uses National benchmarking standards to set salaries by subspecialty. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The minimum base salary range for this position is $156,700-$333,700. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
