Applied Scientist, Frontier AI & Robotics

Amazon is looking for innovative and experienced Applied scientists to join its Frontier AI & Robotics team. As an Applied Scientist in this team, you will lead and support the development of robotics foundational models for decision-making, focusing on tasks from perception to manipulation. You will collaborate with scientists and engineers to design new deep learning algorithms, refine model architectures, and explore reinforcement learning strategies to build general, flexible robots that operate effectively in the real world. Your work will balance forward-looking research with practical application, working closely with platform teams to deploy your models and algorithms into production, in order to ensure that our robotic systems are scalable and robust enough for our dynamic real-world environments. About the team Our mission is to push the boundaries of robotics by creating and deploying best-in-class AI agents that seamlessly integrate multimodal inputs like images, videos, catalog data, and sensor data in order to most effectively perceive as well as interact with the world. Our systems are deployed in real-world applications at scale, making scalability a core focus of our work. We combine simulated and real-world data to develop state-of-the-art robotics foundation models, leveraging pre-training and fine-tuning techniques to ensure our models are robust and capable of handling diverse deployment scenarios. Minimum Qualifications PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language Experience in state-of-the-art deep learning models architecture design and deep learning training and optimization and model pruning Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment Experience using Unix/Linux Experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and Tensor Flow Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market.
