Pay Range
$110,700 - $142,128 Yearly at the SES.1 level

Job Description
We have an opening for a Software Developer with a combination of education and experience commensurate with supporting a variety of software development assignments. You will work on multi-disciplinary teams in an environment that encourages the support of the academic research community while focusing on problems of interest to LLNL and DOE programs as a member of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment. This position is within the Livermore Computing Division's Tool Development Group within the Computing Directorate.
In this role you will Provide computer science and software development support using industry standard software development practices and modern programming languages and operating systems. Contribute to build core features and support Spack, including parallelization of installations and performance optimization of builds. Analyze the performance of build tasks and HPC build workflows, suggest improvements, and develop novel solutions. Collaborate in a distributed team with members across the globe, at DOE labs, and in other countries. Participate on a research team to provide fundamental support to research papers. Contribute to the fulfillment of technical projects and organizational objectives and may function as a team member on multi-disciplinary teams. Engage with other developers frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship. Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience. Fundamental knowledge in all aspects of software project life cycle: feasibility, requirements, design, implementation, integration, test and deployment. Experience developing with Python or C/C++ in Linux, mac, and/or Windows environments. Experience with build systems: make, autotools, or CMake. Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities and meet deadlines that are important to project success. Experience approaching difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity. Sufficient interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel with the ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Sufficient written and verbal communication skills to prepare, present, and document technical information. Qualifications We Desire
Understand the needs of code teams, identify features, packages, and DevOps workflows to enhance productivity. Rapidly learn new tasks, frameworks, and workflow paradigms, e.g., DevOps, Containers, and AI tools. Ability to work with other teams in LC to implement web and developer workflows. Experience with version control systems like Git. Experience collaborating with researchers, particularly in computational fields. Experience with HPC system architecture, job scheduling, measurement and monitoring. Experience with modern CI/CD systems such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
