Job Description / Essential Elements:
JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Food Service Director or Site Lead, assists in preparing and serving the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs, After School Program and nutrition breaks. The Cafeteria Assistant works with the point of sale (POS) system ensuring accurate daily totals for meals served. The assistant cleans the work areas; kitchen equipment and utensils; performs related tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
May include, but not limited to:
1. Assist with meal preparation of multiple entrees daily, prepare salad bar daily; including preparation of fruit, vegetables, and other food items; inventory nutrition break and/or after school program items.
2. Assist with following a prescribed menu, menu production records, to assure all state requirements are being met.
3. Set up for serving and serve meals and snacks to students, faculty members and parents, while overseeing students
4. Meet required Professional Standard training by the district and state law.
5. Assists in taking temperatures of foods, refrigerators/freezers, and keeping daily logs.
6. Assist in taking monthly inventory.
7. Perform other duties, as directed, consistent with the general areas of responsibility surrounding the job description.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Application of: District and State policies and procedures as they apply; methods and practices of food service involving food preparation, serving and clean-up; operation of equipment used in a modern food preparation environment; Oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability to:
• Work independently and confidentially
• See for purposes of reading printed matter
• Use a computer for point of sale (POS); count money accurately
• Hear and speak to conduct normal in person and telephone conversations
• Lift up to 60 pounds; bend pull, stoop, push, and move sufficiently to conduct the duties described in an efficient manner
• Operate food service equipment and machines in a safe and proper manner
• Prepare and serve all school program meals in an efficient and cost-effective manner
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, parents and others
• Understand and carryout oral and written directions
Education / Experience: High School Diploma or GED required
Experience: None required
Conditions of Employment: If required, to operate a motor vehicle during the course of employment, must possess a valid Class 2 operator's license and be insurable at the standard rate applied to the Escalon Unified School District.
Salary Level: 30 - Classified Salary Schedule
Requirements / Qualifications
Monday-Friday
3 hours per day / 9:45 am- 12:45 pm.
Hours may be adjusted to accommodate minimum days or other breakfast and lunch schedules.
